My husband and I had been booked a romantic overnight stay including full english breakfast with champagne for his special '50th birthday' by a friend.

The 'rose petals' on our bed were imatation silk heart shaped flowers which were not fresh as you would expect.

The chocolates that had been offered upon arrival were 4 'unwrapped' small chocolates placed on a type of saucer next to a boiling hot raditor and covered in some sort of sauce. These were thrown in the bin by us.

The hotel has a continuous stream of aeroplanes flying over very closely and around 4.00am the cargo plane flew over waking us with a fright. Complimentary earplugs were offered to us and the notice outlined they could be found in the drawer, but none were in the drawer and had to be requested?? They did not cover the aircraft noise, we did not have hardly any sleep. Some of the furniture in our room was very worn and I unfortunately cut my leg open on the side of a wooden bench (splinters and all).

We then went down to enjoy our full english breakfast only to be informed that no hot food was available as the kitchen was being refurbished and we were offered tea and toast( toast you have to make yourself) along with and cold meats and fish??

This was the icing on the cake for us and we could not wait to return home.

We complained to the hotel Manager who took our details, but no details of my cut leg were taken in the hotel accident book and no first aid offered.

The General Manager then called us the same evening. He said he would look into the matter and then called 48 hours later.

He told me that the receptionist confrmed with him that she had informed us that there was to be no full english breakfast as the kitchen was being refurbished. This was extremly upsetting as she did NOT inform us of this at all.

The General Manager did offer us a free stay should we return and he has offered a refund in full.

We would not return to this hotel and would not recommend this hotel.

First the good part:
Friendly (Polish/non-english) staff and good food even though it seemed for ever to get to the table. Restaurant is nicely decorated (but modern! not period futures in the hotel, just the outside) and comfortable. Room and bathroom were clean and nicely decorated. The hotel is a stunning building on the outside and lovely grounds.

Bad part:
At arrival we noticed how low the planes flew over the hotel. I could read the logo's on the bottom of the plane. The noise was astounding. After an hour or so you got a bit used to it but still very intrusive. At the reception it was said that the planes would stop flying over from about 10.30 PM till 6 AM. NOT TRUE. It went well on till midnight and even one at 3 AM. Slept three hours in total before getting up to go to the airport at 5 AM.
Start handing out free earplugs at reception.

My room was tiny! And not isolated against the noise.
The bathroom was very basic. No extra shelves to put your stuff on. Just two towels. The mirror in the bathroom was on chest hight so even I (4.9 ft) needed to bend over to see anything.

NO wifi in the room!!! just the bar and lounge. The only one which worked was at the bar. In there an annoying digital piano was playing way too loudly.
I had to cross a quite dangerous road to get to the building with my room.
Tiny flatscreen tv at the far end of the bed.

Even tho we had price deal I'd rather spend that money at a Premier Inn. Can't believe they would charge even more for this kind of room.

Friendly reception, and simple check in. The grounds and location are visually impressive. The room that I had was quient and the shower was spacious and clean.
Although there were a few problems:

Approx 3cm gap between closed window and frame - although not an issue for me as the night was warm and dry.

The extractor fan in the bathroom did not work so was very humid and moisture took quite some time to clear.

The biggest issue, especially if staying for longer than 1 night was the aircraft noise taking off from Stansted. Very loud. However this does stop around midnight. The hotel did supply in-ear defenders, and do recognise the noise could be a nuisance.

The flood lights that illuminate the pond at the front of the hotel were a pain. Throughout the entire night they kept flickering on and off, similar to a very bright security light. If you are sensitive to light when trying to sleep then get a rear facing room. I however slept well, although it was irritating when getting to sleep!

Overall though, certainly as a single overnight stay, it ticked the boxes that were most important.

Stayed overnight for work at the moment hotel, was pleasantly surprised as I drove up to the building; a very pretty building. Staff at the reception desk were super friendly and helpful, explained all I needed to know and advised times for evening meals and breakfast, showed me to my room and apologised that key electric key was installed upside down. The room itself was fine, a little bit cramped and short in place es but fine nonetheless. Shower and bathroom were great, I could have stayed under the shower for hours! I ate in the hotel restaurant for tea and all the wait staff were very pleasant and helpful when required, food was fantastic, the fresh pumpkin ravioli was absolutely beautiful and surprisingly filling. Yes there is a noise issue with the hotel being basically at the foot of a runway but if you didn't check the local area/location when booking your stay then you only have yourself to blame. There's a picturesque grounds and garden to walk around if you get the time and lots of small cubby holes and nooks to hide yourself away in if you need to.

We stayed here the night before our flight to Oslo for one very good reason; within the price of the room you get to park at the hotel and get a taxi to and from the airport, perfect.
The hotel itself is very picturesque. The room was superb with solid wood flooring and lead lined windows and a very modern, well finished bathroom, (I think you can always tell the quality of a hotel from its bathroom). The bar food was also excellent too amd not too expensive either. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially the girl on reception.
I don't usually write reviews to be honest but felt this was worth it.
All in all I'd give the place a 9/10. Why not 10? Just because I'm managing expectations :)

Great venue & stayed for a wedding , flight path didn't bother us that much ... although the sun was out !!!? Had an upgrade too (which was nice ) do like an upgrade too to a biggy room no bath but walk in shower for two. .. ooo err mrs. ..stayed in the stables (R10) door was a bit dodgy tho. . as if it had a mind of its own to whether it would let you in or not.. ?? restaurant was nice & food fab.. (well dun chiefs ).. I like it ear.. ps Plane's fly over every 3mins ish... didn't hear them @ night !! but that may have something to do with the alcohol content lol .

Avoid this place it's should be rated 2 star. When we arrived we was told our room is in a building across the road. A tiny room with a TV the size of a computer screen a bed that looks like some you would find on eBay for £50.

The planes from Stansted airport skim over the roof every 45 seconds. They even supply free earplugs which you will need.

I complained about everything including the 4 star rating that they must of bribed the rating company.

The staff are very friendly, but don't waste your money coming to this place.

Lovely building and gorgeous grounds. Restaurant pricey but good, a little lacking in atmosphere although that could be down to the fact we were the only couple in. Nice comfy chairs for drinks after. We had a room in a separate block across the road - not too keen on the laminate flooring, cold and the bed kept sliding about. Good bathroom with walk-in shower, no shelves to put your stuff on, so had to keep bending down to the floor to get your toiletries. On the flight path to Stansted but we didn't notice until we were outside walking around the grounds.

A beautiful hotel, very close to the Stansted Airport. The staff was very helpful when we arrived and helped us to book a taxi for the next morning. It was quite hard to find the entrance (yes, we arrived at night but still) as it wasn't clearly marked. We stayed in a small building just across the small road. The room itself was very small but beautiful and well equipped. BUT we could hear EVERYTHING from the room upstairs as the ceiling/floor is extremely bad insulated. Add the planes taking off and you have a sleepless night.

Avoid this Hotel if you can, the planes are at 1000ft above the hotel coming in to Stanstead, from 5am to 12 midnight. old windows, smashed and cracked, dirty showers, glass on floor, hardly any staff, floors in hotel are filthy dirty, breakfast room floor never washed in years, it needs a total refurbishment.Avoid this hotel if you wish to sleep at night, walls thin, you can hear above and next door, doors slamming all night, its the worst hotel I have stayed in in 45 years of business travel worldwide.Hope this helps your selection.

Great staff and nice rooms. The one I had was spacious. Very noisy though, not just directly under the flightpath for Stansted airport ( but that I knew), but the wooden floors and lack of doors in the public areas means you can hear everyone coming and going.
Even upstairs I could hear people checking in at reception downstairs.
Food good and waitibg staff great too.
But £4 for a bottle of water! Other snacks in room I expect to get caned for, but £4 for a 20p bottle of water is mental.

Having had our wedding reception here in 2012 at which we were so pleased that everything was perfect, we decided to have a meal at the Manor on Saturday 17th Feb to celebrate our 6th anniversary, WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT, service so slow, took 2 hours for starters and main, gave up on desert, food not the best and was over priced for what you got. Will never go back or recommend to anyone. Will only let me post this after selecting a star rating, pity you could not pick a minus star!!!!!!

Stayed overnight for a wedding. Bed and breakfast for £85. Had a nice stay. Room was clean & modern, nice shower and comfy bed. We had breakfast in our room too which was also nice. Had quite a few drinks at the bar which offered a good service and reasonable prices. Food for wedding was also nice. Would have no problem recommending this hotel but just be aware it is very close to Stanstead airport landing runway so there is noise from low flying aeroplanes. Didn't bother us.

I originally booked 1 x nights stay with Gt Hallingbury Manor Hotel, via Expedia, for the 8 April for an early morning flight from Stansted. Unfortunately the flight had to be cancelled for business reasons. Its difficult to speak to a human in Expedia, so I sent an email message to the Hotel directly. The receptionist Shazia was very helpful, and was able to move my booking to later date in April without any hassle. Already a good impression - I am looking forward to my stay!

This has been an interesting experience, the room was gorgeous, well equipped with a lovely bathroom. What we struggled to get over was the fact that this hotel is in the flightpath to Stanstead. We struggled with this sleep wise not being used to the background noise. What caused this to be a low rating though was the intrusive nature of the fire alarm that woke us at 2am. Though I cannot imagine that this is a regular event it did ruin any sort of piece full night sleep.

Hello, well, my experience with this hotel was a little bit special. My flight was cancelled and the company had to pay for some place to stay for one night. I arrived at midnight and had to left in just three hours, but it was a pure luck to get there! The receptionist was awesome and very kind, (he even showed me a picture of a duckling they have there because I wouldn't be able to see it) and I felt in the room like a movie star!!

Sadly we arrived and left in the dark as we had an extremely early flight. But from what I could see, the location was lovely (aside from the planes flying over, but surely you'll know about that when booking). Friendly and helpful staff who made sure a cab was ready to pick us up at 5am. The room was very nice, clean and cute. Would definitely recommend, especially if you have an early flight from Stansted.

Bathroom in the top floor of the annex bit was freezing and my shower was too. My parents bathroom was fine though which was the ground floor. Overall clean and comfortable and they can't help the noise of the planes. The service for the bar and food was a bit slow. Only one member of staff on even though there was a big wedding party in that weekend. But the food was good quality and tasty.

I attended Great Hallingbury Manor for a wedding, and it couldn't have been a more perfect location. The staff were amazing, quick to attend to everyone's needs, and went above and beyond to make everything perfect for the couple's special day. And to top it all off, the venue couldn't be in a more beautiful location! Would highly recommend it for any special event!

Visit Hallingbury Manor 3 to 4 times a year when flying out of Stansted. Rooms very good although on last visit radiators not working and only a small oil radiator was in room which was ineffective.
Good range of food on menu but gluten free options limited.
Appreciated the chef peppering a breakfast to take away early morning when going to the airport.
Staff friendly.

I recently booked a room with this place as I had stayed there preiously unfortunately due to my flight being cancelled by Ryan air which was beyond my control I tried to get a refund but was told it was a non refundable booking I tried to ask for a voucher for another time and was told that was not possible also.
Not great customer service shall not be staying there again.

The Manor is conviniently located near Standsted so ideal for an early morning flight. That said the Manor fails to live up to expectations somewhat. The decor is a bit bland, the overhead planes are very loud due to single pane glass windows. And be warned if youre in a lower room floor, footfall from the rooms anove is very loud. Okay, but that's about it.

Terrible service couldn't understand receptionist no instructions on where room was, or how key card worked couldn't see where to insert key in door as room outside and too dark not even told this canopies and drinks just left in a corner not served not told when to sit down for dinner and only 2 people serving would never return

Back in August I had the honour of photographing a wedding at Great Hallingbury Manor, absolutely gorgeous wedding venue so so pretty with lots of photo opportunities to capture. The staff were brilliant as well - I can't wait to work with them again!

All the best,

Would not recommend this hotel. Stayed in the house opposite the hotel, very basic, room wasn't clean and very noisy with other guests leaving at all hours of the night. Was woken several times during the night, ended up checking out just after 5am. Wasn't asked if everything was ok on leaving. Never again.

Great hotel with lovely character and staff always happy to help. Yes there is aircraft noise, but that is known in this area. Have dined here both for dinner and lunch. Food always really great. Use the hotel for meetings and for running workshops and find it is brilliant.

Good place to stay when flying from Stansted. Setting is nice, rooms are comfy and clean, staff are friendly and helpful and you can get good deals on price. Only slight downside is that there is aircraft noise but it finishes around 23.00 so it is not really a problem.

Lovely hotel, had a great stay. It's near the airport so of course you're going to hear planes. But I felt like in the evening it's barely noticeable, it's more noticeable in the morning. Overall it was nice and I'd stay there again!

Nice looking hotel rooms are a bit featureless and cold. Not carpets make it very noisy. Bathroom was clean but no bath. Beds are comfy but quilt needed to be larger to match size of bed. Hard to find car park in the dark Lane outside not sign posted well.
