We only went for a dinner but it was rather disorganised- we were stood in the foyer, blocking the entry with all our coats on for about an hour, waiting for our room to be ready. We weren't early. The food itself was delicious, though reading the menu in advance of our booking was a little daunting. I found myself having to Google certain ingredients which mostly turned out to be specific breeds of salad and cabbage. Our waiters were very friendly and attentive- never did my wine glass empty. There was a lot of time between courses, and although I appreciate it's nice to have a pause, this was perhaps too long. All in all it took about 5 hours to have a three course meal. It was also quite expensive- about £40 per head before drinks. I want to reiterate, the food was delicious- often not what was expected or imagined but definitely worth a try. I think this would be a good choice for an important event, like a small wedding, or maybe a romantic dinner but I wouldn't recommend a sit down meal for a group of about 20 unless you are fully prepared to wait patiently for a long time. I of course cannot comment on the rooms or leisure facilities- but I will say the price of an overnight stay would set you back a bit- this is definitely not for a business stay, this is more an important anniversary price to my mind.

If this place were a little closer to home it would be my all time favourite venue for dining out. Drinks and nibbles in the bar starts the process of relaxation and definitely begins to put one in a Between-The-Wars state of mind. You almost expect to see Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings nipping in for a quick Creme de Banane. In the summer it's pleasantly cool and in the winter pure heaven if you happen to be quickest to one of the wing-back chairs by the fire. On the occasions I've been there I've found the other guests to be sometimes loud and sometimes horsey, but rarely both.

The restaurant is pleasantly light and airy, with plenty of space between the tables so that if you can hear someone else's conversation you can be reasonably sure that it is intentional. Service is attentive yet understated and the Maitre D is a suave star at all times. The food, much of it locally sourced, is simply faultless: the cheese souffle in particular is a shining beacon of indulgence and excellence.

And if there should be an embarrassing lull in the conversation then somebody can always ask 'So exactly what are all those Christmas puddings doing hanging from the ceiling?'.

How unfortunate that the poor management of this beautiful establishment means we are unlikely to return. Firstly I wanted to complain directly to avoid posting bad reviews but after 3 emails, 2 phone calls (where I was promised calls back and no ever called) and a tweet directly to the hotel and group HS Hotels I have still had no response, not even an automated email reply.

So firstly the hotel needs to advertise that children are allowed use of the pool so spa goers like myself aren’t put out on the day.

Secondly while at our evening meal my husband must have been knocked on the back or arm over 5 times by waiting staff without a single apology.

Thirdly our room as lovely as it was had very heavy doors which our neighbour seemed to like slamming continuously, at 8 in the morning when they left we thought we may finally get some peace but by 9 the cleaners had arrived and were in and out slamming the door and store cupboard door every time. Not only that the other rooms tv is on the same wall as our rooms headboard so when we went back to the room that evening we couldn’t relax as it was so loud. We even put the same channel on to drown out the noise.

Having booked a family room with 2 single beds and a sofa bed. The room was small and the sofa bed mattress painfully thin. The springs were awful. The room was clean and ensuite a good size. Breakfast on our first morning was cold...not good for a cooked breakfast. The pre booked spa treatments for 3 people changed last minute and this impacted on our enjoyment. Dinner menu was limited. The staff all fantastic.
I made a request to have a replacement mattress for the sofa bed. Later in the day I found a single mattress dumped outside my room. Puzzling since the sofa bed was a double. Also I had to struggle to load the thing on top of the sofa bed.
The breakfast on our second morning was a little better. The steam room had a pungent smell and although staff seemed to be tending to this the smell didn't really go altogether. Again there was a delay in the pre booked sessions for spa treatment for the 3 of us...very upsetting when this was a specific request on booking and this didn't happen. Dinner was same as was limited.
Probably won't return. Didn't feel the service regarding mattress was good enough by a mile.

The hotel and the Spa facilities deserves 5 stars definitely, but because we had restaurant included, the service was... hm.. almost satisfactory. The waiters were in general elders so, we had served literally 1 starter and 1 main course in 2hrs 15min. After a spa day you don't really want to spend that much time at a table, but they were careless, didn't bring a menu, waited 20 mins to give an order for the dessert? I mean come on... there were literally 6 tables including ours.. that's a joke. But the hotel is quite good, had a nice pool day.

Beautiful hotel, very comfortable, amazing bathroom and spa facilities really good (although it should be noted that children are able to use the pool at certain times so worth checking if you're after a peaceful spa experience). Only thing that stops me giving 5 stars was the restaurant service, which although was friendly, it was pretty slow and they made quite a few mistakes. Would definitely recommend a stay here though, felt very luxurious and Midhurst and the surrounding area is stunning.

Afternoon tea at the Spread Eagle was quaint and very English. I did feel that some staff members could have been more aware of patrons, many times I noticed people looking for assistance. The tea was lovely however slightly let down by some of the food, the scones were a bit dry and selection somewhat limited. Having said that I could not have eaten another bite and the staff were more than happy to package us up a doggy bag for leftovers. The setting was perfect but service could be polished.

A one night stay with my husband - package included bed, breakfast, three course dinner and a £30 voucher for a spa treatment. The hotel is stunning, like stepping back in time. The room was very comfortable. Swimming in the inky blue water of the pool was incredibly relaxing in a sunlit atrium. Massage was excellent. Wonderful staff and inventive menu and wine list. Thank you Spread Eagle - I feel like I've had a holiday.

Charming small hotel with a lot going on. The spa and pool area is a great place to chill and be pampered, there was an outside patio with sun loungers to sit in the sun. The gym has a range of equipment and they even do classes here.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was a delight to go back in time to having a real key for the room although remembering to lock the door on your way out was challenging.

I attended the Spread Eagle for a family wedding. Throughout the event the staff were great. They provided me with cufflinks, which i had forgotten, ensured drinks were filled, and were generally great all round. The room was was very clean and came with tea and coffee. The bathroom had shampoo and the like and an gown with slippers. The food was of high quality. I will be certainly be looking into visiting again.

Great Ambiente and very friendly staff. Rooms a decent size, but the mattresses need updating.
Amazing dinner spot and good food, also great cocktails and open fireplace. Also dog friendly house which makes it even more cosy and a feel of home.
Spa and pool are clean and good size, but more beach chairs are needed, as not always you get a spot when it’s busy. Make sure you get into pool side early.

Really friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in the 'River' room. Beds were very comfortable and the shower was fantastic. Only minor issues we experienced were at breakfast where the staff forgot to bring toast to the table and we were sitting a while before being served. However staff were professional and polite throughout our stay. I Would definitely go again if in the area.

I love this hotel because it where we got married, situated In a beautiful town called Midhurst this hotel has it all from swimming pool, restaurant and Spa.
lovely bar with a fire place and arm chairs to enjoy your evening drinks with your friends after a nice meal.
The staff are really friendly and helpful.

Lovely location, lovely staff and excellent facilities, let down by a very rattley window right next to a main road in the bed room (single glazed, lots of noise) no air con in room making for a hot night. Food and drinks were excellent but very expensive (£5 a pint and £9.50 for a sandwich). Overall good experience with room for improvement.

I attended a wedding and stopped overnight. The bedrooms were clean, tidy and cosy with lovely traditional touches. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room used for the ceremony was beautifully decorated and made the most of the space available. The food is of high quality. Highly recommend staying here and hosting events here.

Went here for a spa day with my wife for her birthday. Atmosphere was very relaxed and the massage was amazing. The only drawback was the amount of time we had to wait for lunch. The chairs weren't the most comfortable and over an hour sat in them undid the massage we had in the morning.

Really enjoyed our overnight stay at The Spread Eagle. The setting and environment is very quaint but retains elegance. Rooms very comfortable and upmarket. Staff couldn't be more helpful and service was excellent throughout. Breakfast very good. 100% recommend.

Spa was great , staff were polite , room I was expecting bigger for the money we paid , view was rubbish - unless you like looking at the back of a kitchen and pipes , dinner - the chicken was cold when served on a hot plate , breakfast was good

Went for Afternoon tea with a group of ladies from work. Amazing food and a good tea selection. Lovely surroundings (we were in the bar) and fantastic service. Only let down was in not being able to have sandwiches without mayo!

Situated in a lovely old market town, with the historical Cowdray ruins just down the road. The bar was lovely and cosy, with it's sloping roof and original fireplaces. The staff make you feel welcome and are friendly.

Old stodgy place. Services at the restaurant and bar are horrendous. Don't go if you want attentive and prompt service. We had to wait for nearly an hour just for a cup of tea. Buffet breakfast is lacking choice.

Charming hotel with a historic theme. Food is very good. It was very busy in the spa and pool as we went on a Sunday so be mindful. Nicely located if you are enroute to the New Forest or just passing through.

The food was good but perhaps it's expectations were not reached. If I were looking for that special meal for a special occasion I would probably look elsewhere. Nice experience through.

Nice place to go and unwind and relax plus massages are lovely. Hotel is nice and cute little town surrounding to exploit although not much to actually do around except use spa.
