Last night at the Rope Tackle Art Centre saw the start of Peggy Seeger's 80th birthday tour, not quite there as she kept reminding us, but at 79.9 a real joy to behold, sharp, witty and what a musical polymath, surrounded not only by her two adored boys Neill and Callum but a van load of instruments each lifted from its stand without ceremony to be played with exquisite skill. Her repertoire was drawn from right across her song book; traditional songs, feminist songs, union songs, funny songs and of course there were her beloved Ewan McColl's songs too. She peppered the evening with jokes and witticisms from her diary of found quotes and sayings. It was a wonderfully uplifting night full of joy, politics and humour, brilliantly supported by her modest and dry humoured sons, pleased to be by their mother's side as she shone.
Only one element marred this wonderful event and the finger has to be pointed squarely at The Rope Tackle and that was the poor quality of the PA system. It hummed and screeched, Callum singing his father's Joy of Living was hopelessly muffled and distorted. Peggy herself had to stop singing The first time ever I saw your face and plead with 'Steve' on the mixing desk to just turn all the sound down and she started again to much better effect. But the giveaway was the desk winding in huge amounts of echo to the voice of Neill singing a traditional ballad, which would have had his father raging in his grave. This was a gig that had been sound rigged for a rock band; too many monitors turned up too high, too many open microphone causing hum and feedback, this was an acoustic set! Come on Rope tackle get your act together if you are to do acoustic music the justice it deserves

Great band. Local warm up act was very average, but nice of them to give local talent an opportunity. Show was introduced by centre worker who rambled and maintained a silent crowd.
The sound cut out briefly a few times during the show but generally felt like a very well run and done up local folk club.

Went to the panto there. Was a really good time and they catered really well to children in the form of a padded area they could sit on the floor to see the show better. The snacks and coffee were pricey, and minimum card charge of 5 pounds was a little annoying.

The cafe here is absolutely fantastic. All homemade food and cakes, and a good selection of vegan and gluten free. Staff are so friendly and everyone is welcome, big buggies and babies too!

Small and friendly venue. Wide range of shows and performances and a decent bar that isn't too expensive. For small, cosy and entertaining evenings out this is a great place to go.

Brilliant venue, with some really good acts. Also, the cafe does an excellent stage roll!
Went to see the panto, which was excellent and it was nice to see it so well supported.

Fantastic arts venue. Growing year on year from my understanding. Parking can be pain although a short walk over the river means you can park for free at the Adur Rec free car park.

This is a wonderful venue for all entertainments and they do good food as well. Give it a try. Run mostly by marvelous people who give of their time freely. Very Unique!

A lovely small Arts Centre with a café and bar. We went to see Richard Durrant and the venue provided an intimate atmosphere for his performance.

A great venue for music. We had the pre concert meal in Linda's kitchen which was delicious and highly recommended for just £10.

The acoustics for gigs are top notch and the venue is intimate and lovely. They often have some big names here too! Fabulous venue.

Nice little place for small events such as plays or short films. Seating layout needs changing however.
