As a local resident, I always recommend a trip to the Roebuck to any visitor to Richmond!

The views over the Richmond Terrace are simply unbelievable. You're allowed to take your drinks out onto the Terrace, so you can take in the beauty of the spot with pint in hand. I would particularly suggest going at sunset and watching the epic panoramas as daylight fades.

Plus, the pub itself is very pretty inside, made up in a quintessentially English country-pub style, and the drinks are always varied. Yes, they are pricy (£4.50+ for a pint), but all the pubs in Richmond are like that; and compared for example with the Marlborough pub round the corner, the Roebuck is in fact relatively cheap.

To get there, it's probably about a 15 minute walk up a hill from Richmond centre. This can certainly be taxing, but if you take the 371 bus and get off at Richmond Park Gate it's less than 5 minutes on flat ground! Alternatively, the 65 gets you to the bottom of the Terrace Gardens, and so you can walk up that very pretty (albeit steep) hill to get to the top of the Terrace.

All in all, no visit to Richmond is complete without a trip up to the Park and the Terrace; and while you're there, I'd definitely recommend you pop into the Roebuck for a pint or some food!

A visitor to the area, I was looking for somewhere to have a quiet lunch and found the Roebuck using Google. When I stepped inside I was greeted by a warm cosy atmosphere. There were maybe half a dozen other customers in the pub.
The menu had a reasonable selection of sandwiches, light bites and full meals - pretty much what you'd expect from a pub. The bartender was pleasant and friendly when I ordered. I selected a Wagyu Burger (?) as it sounded quite good. It was served in around 10 minutes with fries, coleslaw and dressing, and I must say it was very good.
Nothing spectacular, but a pleasant lunch and reasonably priced, considering it's Richmond-upon-Thames.
One final point: a wonderful view out over the Thames, from the front of the pub.

visited earlier this year. This place has the tremendous view , and this view makes the beer here the most special in the world. Friendly staff, the building reminds me of the ancient history that I have never been to. Food looked nice. Climbing up the hill and meeting up with the people with beer glass on the right hand, looking over the view of the walks I have just finished, my radar can't help but spot the very source of their luxury. Got one beer, which was strawberry one ( but my second visit I failed to get that one) I had the most beautiful beer sipping experience with my beloved company back then. it might not be the same as you get another visit, however, this was one of the memories I saved before coming back to my country.

What a great pub! Some friends and I stopped off here on the way back from a photowalk around Richmond Park on Saturday to grab a drink and gain some respite from the weather. It was about 4.30pm and the pub was already starting to fill up, but the staff were extremely efficient. It was great to see a number of guest ales on tap and I managed to grab a delicious IPA (not sure of the name) and ordered the Wild Board Burger, which was delicious.

If ever I find myself in this part of London again (which I am planning on doing), I shall hope I am in the right part of town to revisit The Roebuck.

I love this pub. I like like beer, they have served some stunners, I love the view from the promenade outside, a great boon to post prandial quaffing, which makes it all the more difficult to say the two roasts we just paid £25 for were a underwhelming disappointment. Saturated in non descript gravy, the beef was overcooked, the goose fat potatoes tough but not crisp, & challenging to get through, not the end of the world, also not worth going back for.

Called in after a very long walk along the Thames Path. Lovely evening rounded off with an al fresco bottle of Italian white at a reasonable price.
It was refreshing that we were treated like adults with like minded people enjoying a drink in what would appear to be a public place rather than a beer garden.
Lovely views in good company. Well done.
Thanks too to the South African barman who made us welcome

This is our semi local pub. We enjoy the quiet drink here during the week and the staff is always very friendly and attentive. Location is perfect of course. The only downside is the food. Dont think it's super fresh, feels like frozen food generally speaking, the chips weren't great either, tiny and griecy.

The refit is not exactly an improvement, having stripped a little charm away, but the views are terrific, unbeatable in London, and the staff over the last 26 years have always been interesting, diverse and competent. Steep hills and sod-all parking here generally ensures that clientele really deserve to be here.

This place will remain forever in my heart! I've spent great moments here, everybody is very kind and the beer is really good, you can also stay for dinner and eat typical English dishes or play darts with friends. Not to say the wonderful sight you can have on the river Thames in front of the pub.

The food was lovely but the service was shocking. We booked a table for 2pm, waited 50 mins for our starter & 1.5 hours for our main. No apology, no discount or complimentary drinks offered. When I asked how long our food would be the waitress was very surly. Disappointing to say the least!!

Wonderful beer selection, wonderful atmosphere. Regular beer change. My idea of what a pub should be on every level. Also great staff. No faults. Just perfection in my book and I'm very fussy. You will not regret a visit and that alone speaks volume of the quality purveyed.

That special place for me and my hubby :) We used to date here in our early days. Keep coming back whenever we got chance. Lovely atmosphere and helpful staff. When the weather is nice you can grab a pint and seat outside enjoining the view on Themes river

What a Gem!

Doesn't take a long time to get a feel for a place and this one was a great one.

Fast service, friendly and welcoming.

I really wish I could have stayed for longer.

Hope to come back soon.

Had Sunday lunch here, and it was really solid. Roast potatoes were a treat, nut roast was decent. Could be improved by some cauliflower cheese or roasted veg. Location is obvs amazing and the atmos is nice, music was good and the staff friendly.

Lovely pub on the hill with a most amazing views of the Thames. Staff won't mind if you take your drink over the road to enjoy the view. Never tried the food but looks and smells nice and it's always busy inside at the weekend.

Very slow service. The food is average the kids are getting very restless. All together a terrible experience. I do not recommend. Do not go. Don't listen to the other reviews. They are all fake. Made by the pub.

Great pub with a magnificent view of the river Thames. Outside benches (not owned by the pub) and a hill with soft and verdant grass where to enjoy your drinks, especially at the sunset.
Good choice of beers.

It was a few years ago when I last went now, but I remember it being a very pleasant spot - very nice views down the hill to the river, and a great place to stop off after a bracing stroll through Richmond Park.

Service was really slow and the staff wasn't even pretending to be apologetic about making us wait for the food for over an hour... The food was disappointing, tasteless, dry and cold... BAD EXPERIENCE!

Loved it. Good food, great selection of localy brewed ales.
Service was quick. Great view. Parking could be an issue but we were on foot so didn't matter.
This is what a pub should be like.

Decent pub, with fairly high prices, but good selection and worth it just for the view - take your drink across the street and enjoy the view on one of the many benches! One of the best views in London...

Used to be good. The place is now rapidly going 'down the hill' bad quality food , cold served, arrogant and rude staff creating bad atmosphere. Enjoy the view outside and avoid the place inside

I was so lucky to find such a cool place for dinner! I was worried about for a bad reply, but it was nothing indeed. There is really good and peaceful place to have meal and something to drink.

Lovely little pub with truly fantastic view down to the river Thames. Good and frequently changing selection of real ales and good menu of generous sized meals. Mostly friendly bar staff.

A quaint and charming English pub. Has the wonderful advantage of sitting on top of Richmond Hill, allowing its patrons to drink across the street with views of the Thames and London.

Brilliant all times of year. Cosy inside during winter months and perfect for a pint outside atop Richmond Hill in the summer... Prime spot for 5th Nov with fireworks views for miles.

Good choice of draught beers . Great location with views across the Thames across the road from the roebuck where you can take your drink to the many benches. Lovely food too

A pub with breathtaking view of Thames. Relaxed and professional service. My 3 years Lond pub goer experience says they have best burgers in London here. Very busy on weekends.
