We booked an overnight room, to enjoy the Christmas markets and NQ, without one of us having to drive or avoid either an extortionate taxi fare or late night bus ride home. We are familiar with the Abel Heywood, having eaten and drank here many times in the past few years, therefore it seemed a logical place to book a room for the night. We were not disappointed, easy check-in, pleasant and helpful staff started the stay off on the right footing. Great access to the room via the lift, handy also for drinks at the bar (where drinks can be charged to your room). The room was a nice size, not huge but not small and pokey either, just comfortable for 2 people. Cleanliness was top notch, and we loved the wet room we had ensuite. All decorated really tastefully. We loved it, a perfect base that suited our needs. Despite being in the NQ we weren't aware of any noise from bars and surrounding nightlife. It's also close enough to the shops etc for it be convenient without you being in the midst of it all. Breakfast well worth the extra supplement. All in all a fantastic stay, that we would certainly recommend to others but also consider rebooking for ourselves again.

Lovely hotel in a convenient location in the Northern Quarter. This hotel is located above the bar and restaurant, and there's a separate entrance in the night after the bar has closed.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom was very clean and tidy. Loved the tiles in the bathroom. We also loved the retro radio in the room too.

We dined at the hotel's bar/restaurant downstairs and enjoyed the steak and chicken burger. Again, the bar staff was tremendously friendly.

We would definitely recommend The Abel Heywood and would stay here again in the future.

Nice pub but unfortunately it just feels a bit out of shape and maybe suffering from an identity crisis - in other words, is it a pub or a hotel.
We visited as a group of 4 and had to wait a very long time for our food. The food itself was pretty bland and nothing special in anyway.
The only redeeming factor was the very nice young bar staff who really tried their best to interact with customers.
I think the pub decor, beer menu, food menu & quality need a face lift if the pub is to compete with other major venues.

The Abel Heywood is lovingly restored 18th century building providing an extensive food and drinks menu. Located in central Manchester close to a multi storey car park and High Street shops with tram and bus routes on the doorstep. I have not eaten at this establishment but looking at the menu, it appears a little on the pricey side but wouldn't deter me from eating there in the future. The bar service was very good with friendly staff. I am not sure if accommodation is available at The Abel Heywood.

The hotel is in the northern quarter, which is a great area of Manchester for bars and restaurants. It's very close to the centre of town and Piccadilly station, so is easy to get to. Our room was very comfortable and clean, the shower was great and it was nice and quiet overnight. The staff in the bar and behind reception were all friendly and helpful. The city guide and 'newspaper' in the room were a nice touch and gave us some tips on places to visit.

Very friendly helpful staff, very clean room, excellent healthy food. There was no cupboard, and no stand to keep the suitcase. So your luggage is your shelf, taking and keeping it from floor level was a bit hard for me as I have already some back issues. So I felt it as a very strenuous work. Apart from that all 5 stars
Size of room-- very small. But may be other rooms are bigger.

What a shame, this used to be our favourite Friday night go to but unfortunately tonight we were forced to leave after one pint because the management managed to make the atmosphere reminiscent of a local working men’s or Phoenix Nights. Bad wedding style DJ, music far too loud, distorted voice over comments and bingo! Need I say more?! Please rethink your Friday nights Abel Heywood!!!!

Smart Hydes pub set in the back streets of the Northern Quarter. Opened in converted retail premises around 2013, I seem to recall. Always appears to be busy with a good mix of clientele, but mostly couples who seek a not too trendy, but safe atmosphere. Comfortable interior over two floors; food always available, good selection of five cask beers. Recommended.

We had quite a pleasant stay. Everyone working there was very friendly, and the place just had a good vibe to it. Rooms are small but comfortable and well appointed. The hotel restaurant/bar has a nice atmosphere and great food (kitchen open until 9 weekdays). There are also plenty of other eating options nearby in what seems to be a hip neighborhood.

Just popped in for a drink before a dinner reservation elsewhere, only had one but the bar staff were very friendly with a good selection of cask ales. Asked for a recommendation and was then asked for my tastes showing the guys behind the bar had tried the beer themselves. Can't fault it. Based on my first visit, I'll be back!

The pub itself is beautiful. You can tell it's old but it's been kept in really good shape. The decor is really nice. The food was adventurous and delicious. I had a burger which was huge, but the special was a 'cooked dinner Yorkshire pudding burrito' which may not sound that great but it was so good!

One of the best bars in the northern quarter. Only visited a few times but been a good atmosphere every time I've called in. Friendly staff & quick service. If your new to this area I would definitely recommend a visit mainly being the other people in the place. Great people + good bar\\u003dA good night out.

Intimate boutique rooms with distinctive features and plenty of space. Comfortable, well thought through rooms. Nice touches such as a portable record player and vinyl in room. A quirky, independent feel to hotel and pub that builds on local heritage. Great food and drink. Recommended for a non chain based stay.

I must have been here to drink 10+ times and it’s always got a buzzing atmosphere. It’s one of those go-to pubs in the northern quarter. I’ve eaten the food once and it was Delish and the pudding was just divine. I’ve even grabbed a few games of battleship as they’re have a small pile of board games.

A fine place indeed. Prices are cheap to medium and great if you want a quick pint or sit for hours chatting with your hipster friends. They have a wide range of drinks from obscure to well-known. This does get somewhat busy so best to get an early seat but it's well known in the area.

We really enjoyed our stay here after a concert and it didn't disappoint! The staff are really friendly and helpful and the place is dead cool! Our room was nice a spacious with a sofa and we loved the decor! The best bit was the breakfast tho, the full English was awesome!!

Very attractively done out but it suffers a what a lot of bars do now in the NW and lacks soul. If your looking for a trendy spot to gather it's great, but it's not a 'real' pub. Nice beer selection if a little pricey. Good for wine and food is great.

Very nice, helpful staff. Very good boutique hotel. Location in North quarter is grea. We went to the Etihad to see robbie Williams and was half hour walk or 10 min taxi. You can get the tram which is just round the corner.
Food excellent.
Overall 9/10

Food was nice, and service was good. My biggest issue was the amount of items on the menu that were not available! I was also cold while sat eating my Sunday dinner. I know that the staff need to be kept cool but the customers don't want to freeze!

Second time staying here. Place is really nice. Amazing breakfasts. Right in the centre of the city. Will definitely stay again if visiting Manchester. Book directly through the hotel too as we got a good deal on the room and a free upgrade on the day.

First visit to this establishment. Previously a wholesale premises from the 1970's. Used to walk past it when collecting my dad's wages before he spent it in the pub or on the horses. Quite now but well presented with Hyde ales on draught.

Lovely hotel. The staff were some of the best I have experienced in a while. Great service with the right balance between friendly and professional. Room was lovely although a bit too hipster for my liking. We only had breakfast it it was lovely.

Friday evening, and sadly a very bad laptop/Spotify play list DJ who learned his craft from 80's Radio One, pumped the volume to max way too early. Ruining the vibe to play track bingo. Lose the DJ before you lose all your customers.

Me and my friends attended a quiz night (it's always sunny in philadelphia). It was easy to book, great food, and funny drinks related to the TV programme, fully recommended a quiz night and we are booking for lord if the rings :)

This hotel/pub is gorgeous. The room we were in was lovely and beautifully decorated. I feel like a little extra care with the cleaning and the upkeep of the rooms are the only things stopping me from giving this place a 5 star.

Great food, really nice drinks, and we had a lot of fun at one of their quiz nights. We stayed at the hotel upstairs, and it was absolutely lovely, all the staff are super nice and helpful, would love to come back someday :)

Fairly pricey bar but decent atmosphere. Not bad for a quiet lunchtime pint or a few after work. Can get quite busy in the evenings though. I've not eaten there nor stayed at the hotel so can't speak to those.

First time in here the other week. Very plush bar area and a wide range of craft beers, ales and spirits on offer. It's pricy but you get what you pay for and it's a nice setting so worth that bit extra.

Great little pub that i had never thought of going in until there was a quiz on wednesday. Decent beers, well laid out seating and also an upatairs function available too. Would definitely look to fo again.
