Still a bit of a 'work in progress' but the park has some excellent new landscape features and pathwork infrastructure, including a new footbridge which opens up an interesting, if slightly steep, additional section. The kids play area is resited and much improved and the visitor/interpretation centre (although closed when we visited) has been greatly enlarged. The pond now has a big brother and is very accessable via a much upgraded wooden walkway. The park was always a big hit with our boys, these improvements mean that our grandkids will have an even better time in a country park that compares favourably with anything else in the country. We like it too.

The visitor centre, recently built offers a cafe with a large variety of sandwiches, snacks, cakes etc and great coffee plus many other choices of drinks. It also has a gift shop, full of interesting bits and pieces for all, especially the kids. It also has a great view, through very large windows of both the castle and park.
The park has some great features, the castle of course and a nature visitor centre, sure to catch the interest of kids, let alone the adults. Car parking is good, plenty of space, and sensible pathways for wheelchairs.

Went to the illuminight and was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Plenty of guides around to help if you needed it and lovely atmosphere.

Didn't have much luck trying to find the general parking though as the signs didn't seem to lead anywhere but wasn't a problem to park locally at a friends house and simple walk round.

Would love to go back next year with foreign family members.

Visited Dean Castle for a walk in the sunshine yesterday. I cannot emphasize enough how well kept this beautiful park is.

Every section of the park is maintained really well. We also visited the newly opened cafe there and their selection of food and drink is superb.

On a side note, if you missed it last year, make sure to visit when the 'illuminight' event is on in the winter. It's truly spectacular.

nice walks however the play park very disappointing for kids under 5 there is nothing for them. Even over 5 have to take care. the slide it's daunting for kids to get to and in warm weather the slide heats up causing burns. It's extremely slidey and can cause the child to come out extremely fast leaving them with bumps to the head. Park extremely small compared to what they had before. Limited seating for adults.

Lovely big park, good for walking the dogs around. Has a nice old castle and loads of things to with the kids, The park is currently undergoing a lot of changes and work which will be complete in 2020, So I will update with photos when it is all complete and possibly upgrade the star rateing. As the original park that is now gone was bigger and I would have given 4 stars for it, but I believe the new one will be better!

We love heading to Dean castle park. The walks are lovely and the kids have great fun kicking the foot ball or riding there bikes. In the winter when the snow falls. We take the kids down with there sledge and the have a great time playing in the snow and riding the sled on the hills. Thankfully not too steep which helps with younger children. All in all Greta place to visit all year round

We were thier November, LIGHT SHOW. arranged by council. The park is a lovely place for a walk, swings and have small animal enclosure. Also cafe for snacks or lunch. They have fun days throughout the year. And organise days children can learn about water creatures and animals that live around park. View inside castle and grounds.

A lot of work going on here just now, but it's slowly coming together. I think by the summer this will be a great place to go. The swing park is for the adventurous, the duck pond has been transformed. Good for a stroll, not sure if the cafe is open yet. 3 stars only because it's not finished yet, but I will be back.

Have moved and rebuit the park since we had last been there. However I was quite disappointed in it, as they no longet have anything for little ones 5 and underish. The park is almost much smaller than it used to be. So if you had older children it might be good but if you have babies or toddlers I wouldn't recommend it.

This is a nice park to walk around with a dog or pram. There is a lot of old wooded areas that have good hills for walking or running on. The council are committed to making improvements to the park, especially the play park. These improvements should make the park a more desirable place to visit in the nice summer weather.

Nice historic castle set in a public park. Ample nearby parking, picnic areas and children's play parks. Tours in and around the castle are interesting and informative with the added bonus of it all being FREE. Visitor centre is tidy with toilets and a nice cafe.
Well worth a visit if in or around Kilmarnock.

This is a lovely park which is undergoing a transformation. Unfortunately at time of this visit the swing park was being developed so the 5 year old I was with didn't have a lot of fun here. However have been told it will get better. Ranger spoke to us about the ducks and was informative and helpful.

There is a large redevelopment ongoing and honestly it's not looking as good amenity wise as in the past. The restaurant is way under par with poor service and seriously inexperienced staff. It's not a patch on the previous set up. Whoever planned these changes has made a major faux pas.

Lovely views and walks. They have horses, donkeys and goats. As of August 2017 it's still going under major work with a lot of the paths closed and the animal park closed also. Awkward walking with a pram due to it being mostly off road but when finished should make it a lot easier.

Park starting to shape up with all the changes. The new play park is ok. Bit disappointed with the lack of younger children's play equipment. E.g. swings and small slide. Cafe is great and sure when everything is done with the project it will be a great place to continue to visit.

My self and my family have visited a few times. There are seasonal events on that are very entertaining for the family, Last event we attended was illuminight and it was amazing for the kids. I thoroughly enjoyed myself too along with the rest of the family.

Went for an evening stroll...saw a group of 8 deer who were adorable & although timid were friendly taking grass from my hand loads of work been achieved here so if you haven't been for a while you will see a difference. Something for everyone...

Big disappointment

New play park is not suitable for children, steep banking with no nets, nothing for babies and hardly anything for toddlers. Will be interesting to see what it will be like in the summer. What a waste of the lottery money.

Was not very exciting castle was closed animal enclosure was poor we had a picnic didn't go to restaurant grass 2 as tidy only saw one litter bin the whole time we walked round! But we did pick up other people's empty bottles and rubbish@@

Going through a major facelift at present. Majority of paths still open but no kids play park, cafe or toilet facilities.
The paths are all open now as is the visitor centre which has a cafe and toilets. The kids play area is still not open.

Good walking routes, easy to access and decent parking.

They are doing some major renovations to the kids area and animal enclosures but still well worth a couple of hours.

The cafe is good value and food is decent.

Lovely place to visit. Been going for years and every year it gets better. Play parks for kids, gift shop, cafe, animal's, duck pond, nature trail and not to mention the beautiful castle itself. 5 stars from me.

Nothing at it. Just a big building site now. Council cancelled annual firework display to charge ppl money to see an illuminated building site. Feel sorry for which animals are left in care of east ayrshire council.

Good country park for walking dog. Good children's farm and small zoo. Historic castle and palace with excellent short film (suitable for children) telling the history. Good play areas for children.

5 by Richard Fowler Review source

Lovely park, lots to do. Great for going a walk in with the dogs however beware of the many people walking their dogs without their leads.
The park could do with more groundsmen doing patrols.

4 by Lisa Ferguson Review source

Great walks, friendly staff and a good tearoom.
Tearoom and visitor centre currently closed for a major rebuild but the park is still well visiting for a pleasant walk or visit to the castle.
