In the late afternoon of August 28, 2017, my wife, my younger daughter and I thought that we were about to check in a luxurious hotel at Portsmouth. When the rental car's GPS system could not locate the hotel after many different input, it dawned on us that the luxurious Portsmouth hotel accommodation that we had already pre-paid was not in UK, but in the USA! Rather than bothering our busy and unprepared relatives there, we quickly booked a triple room at the Navigator which is just next to our relative's 'Little Canton' (formerly 'Riviera') restaurant.

Just minutes after getting our reservation confirmation, we checked in the Navigator. What I liked most were its two car parks, as I needed not worry about the parking of the premium car that I rented. The available triple room that we got, when compared with the car parks was small, there was no air-conditioning and breakfast was not included.

Anyway, we needed not have dinner at the Navigator's restaurant as we already had a dinner engagement at the Chinese 'Kam Palace' restaurant nearby. We did not need to have breakfast there the following day either, as we had a brunch engagement near Brighton. On the other hand, our relatives were pleased to find that they had a reason to visit the Navigator as they had never frequented it!

The navigator is a a classic pub/hotel with enjoyable food, a distinct theme (10 guesses for what that might be) and a friendly atmosphere. Staff are all very polite and helpful however I found the room to be a little disappointing at times. The new shower was happily enjoyed, accommodating even me (6'5') with room to spare. The room was a cosy space although it did feel a little enclosed when moving around. Complementary tea, coffee, water (flat and sparkling!) and newspaper where as expected however when it came to sleeping, I found myself a little uncomfortable. The mattress may have been a high quality, spring one when it was bought however it has suffered from its years and now had a few prominent lumps which stuck painfully into my back. The window opened onto the lit car park which, at night, filled the room with a light blue glow; something I personally struggle to sleep with (although I am quite sensitive to light while trying to sleep). The pillows where good, feather pillows and made up slightly for the uncomfortable mattress. Breakfast was a small buffet of cereals and toast followed by a fabulous cooked meal. Overall, I enjoyed the waking hours of my stay however I struggled to get a good night's sleep in the room I stayed in. Other members of my party didn't have the same issues as me so your mileage may vary.

Very pleased with the quality of the food, the service was very slow. We were a table of four and ordered olives and bread to start followed by burgers and chips, it was national burger day. After a very long wait we had trouble getting the attention of the waiting staff to get more drinks and find out where our food was. We were informed the meals were just about to be plated, asked about the olives and bread to be told it was all coming out together. We then asked for the olives and bread to be cancelled as that was a starter but they arrived anyway and told we wouldn't be charged for them. The restaurant didn't seem overly busy but trying to get the attention of staff to order dessert or more drinks was very difficult, as said the food was very good but just an off night on the service side. Would visit again as I'm sure the below par service was just a one off.

Booked a Golden Wedding party for 70 people. Although the function itself went very well, and the service from the staff was excellent on the evening, the experience leading up to that point was less so. When trying to sort out the food, the woman we spoke to (assistant manager, I think) wasn't interested in the slightest. Rather than take 10 minutes to sit down and discuss our requirements, she didn't want to step away from her PC. Mother-in-law left feeling really deflated rather than excited. Left several messages for the manager to call us to discuss it, (at least one of these with the aforementioned assistant manager). Not surprisingly, these weren't returned.

Attended afternoon tea for a christening. The car parking facilities were good, toilets were clean and the function room was easily accessed by those with prams. Drinks were reasonably priced and service at the bar was quick. The buffet food on offer was delicious, however I would have liked to have seen the sandwich fillings listed for vegetarians and those with food allergies. There also seemed to be a slight problem with service for the buffet as scones were served without any cream and jam, and setting up for tea and coffee seemed unorganised. Overall a nice place to hold such a function with a lovely outside area to spill over into.

Travelled down from Birmingham for a family occasion & stayed overnight at The Navigator.
There was some redecorating/refurbishment going on in the bar area but this was not a problem.
My single room was very clean, well presented & very comfy. With hairdryer, iron & board, tea & coffee making facilities & television. Shower, wash basin & toilet were spotless & towels were freshly laundered.
My evening meal & breakfast, were excellent.
Staff were friendly & helpful.
From my experience i would recommend The Navigator.

We stayed at The Navigator to be close to family and friends over the Christmas and New Year holidays, and found everything was absolutely to our satisfaction. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean. The bathrooms appear to be newly done as well. The pub itself is fairly standard with a normal selection of beers and wines and pleasant decor, but where it shines is really with the food. The steak and chunky chips are recommended. All in all, The Navigator proved to be a no-frills gem, and a great little spot to relax between our social commitments.

Very limited menu, the chicken was undercooked and bloody in the middle, this was explained as okay by the manager, I have since checked with various sources and it isn't okay, far from it.The rest of the food ordered was fine but I expected with a limited menu for it to exceptional.
The chicken was whisked away when we complained and a bill presented for the full amount, I refused to pay for the chicken as it was inedible, this was removed from the bill. No complimentary drink just thank you and goodbye.
We will not return.

Fun, clean, nautical place with a small number of guests rooms. Feels like your staying at someone's beach house. Across from the marina. Quaint pub and restaurant as well. Food deserves an A. Bed linens are nice getting an A rating also, but mattress are a B. Can be a little noisy from 7-9 am as people leave. There's also a housing development behind the fence in the rear which can generate a little noise in 2017.

Want to give it a good review but, but, but.
Two if our group ordered fish cakes with poached egg in top as a main meal. Excellent choice bar staff says as chef was making fresh ones.
Meal came out in good time but turned out to be a major disappointment, the fish cakes were still frozen!
Manager apologised and refunded our food order.
Very nice pub inside, great range of food choice and drink menu.

Always a delight to eat and drink here. The customer service is amazing and they staff are so atent that you can just relax and enjoy your drinks/meal and just be with friends whilst they look after the rest.

Good parking and plenty of it.

Its also a really good venue for events with several different areas. good for groups of people with the way that the pub has been separated.

Absolutely beautiful local pub, close to the marina and very popular. Dog friendly with ample seating in both the main eating areas and the annex. Local guest beers available and the food looked plentiful and attractive to eat. Outside decked area with umbrellas looks a sun trap. All in all and very nice place to eat and drink.

Staff were very friendly and quick to serve even though it was a busy Friday night. Great atmosphere. The food is decent and good value. Would recommend as a nice place to go on for family meal. Good selection of beverages to choose from. Leaving the car park is difficult as its located on a very busy road.

Nice pub but ruined by a lot of dogs allowed in there , barking & leaving drool & hair everywhere , not hygienic given the restaurant serves food and not good for allergy sufferers , there were 12 dogs in there on my last visit & I won't be returning until dogs are banned

The staff and service are good, the rooms are small, and during this stay, not sufficiently heated. The rooms at the front of the hotel are very noisy (main road). Prefer the rooms in the back. The bar / pub, the restaurant and the associated staff are excellent. Very typical setting.

Friendly staff, very nice food, reasonably priced. Our room was a decent size with a slightly small bathroom. I cannot fault the food and staff however the reason for my 4 stars was due to bathroom upkeep/ maintenance and we were in a room that was next to the a27 and slightly noisy.

Fantastic. Great food and looked after a big table of us all. Have been here many a time and will continue too. Location is lovely and restaurant it's self is up to date, clean and welcoming. Food is outstanding, every time I've good I've had no grumbles.

Went for a drink with my Dad in the evening, not terrible but they allowed dogs and very loud dogs at that. I personally have little qualms with dogs being there but when the owners can't keep them under control I'd expect the staff to confront them about it.

It was friendly. Efficient staff. Comfortable, food good. Relaxing, only downside was the over loud music. It was awful. I think it was a group who had a distorted sound system. Maybe it has improved. I hope to return. Do you have a soundproofed room available

Pub with rooms. Room was clean and comfortable, all be it basic. A lot better than a lot of places I've stayed. Had an evening meal and the food was lovely and we'll presented, staff were charming and attentive. I look forward to staying again.

We stopped off for lunch. Large car park. The restaurant was a nice clean tidy, light and airy place with plenty of space. I had smoked ham, egg and chips. Very tasty served by friendly staff. Very reasonable prices. Dogs allowed in the bar

We recently attended a birthday party in one of the function rooms at the Navigator. Service was great and staff were friendly and helpful. The function room itself was a good size (supposedly catered for 100 people) and had its own bar.

Lovely kitsch hotel. Lovely seaside theming and fabulous meals. My only complaint if it is one, is that the bar has only three traditional ales from the same low volume brewery, which all taste similar, and aren't all that palatable.

Fitted a table of 20 of is in really well, food was lovely, most of us had roastt which was superb, only minor thing was sought lack of proper vegetables. Provided colouring for the kids. Atmosphere is nice,Overall would really recommend

Breakfast is good (bacon a little overdone). Rooms are nice and clean but the rooms above the pub (1-6) are a little cramped and noisy because of traffic. I'm a heavy sleeper and woke up twice because of noise from the road.

I attended my brother's engagement party at the Navigator recently and had a wonderful time. The venue looks great, the bar staff were fast and professional and the music/lighting worked really well with a amateur playlist!

Had our wedding reception here in The Chart Room. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Hotel rooms were comfortable and clean. Everyone had a really good time and would definitely recommend to friends and family.

On arrival the members of staff were very welcoming and both the bar and restaurant area were clean and tidy. The menu choice suit a varied audience and the food served was delicious. Overall service was very good.

I stayed overnight and enjoyed a great dinner and good breakfast. Room was nicely decorated and bed was comfy. Bathroom made the best of a small space. Easy parking and great location for access to local marinas.
