Fantastic food, but shame about the service.

We came to Windermere for a holiday in the lakes and on Sunday we decided to go out for dinner at The Pig as it was our last night. We were seated by a miserable looking blonde waitress who brought over the food menus, before promptly leaving. We had to go and get the drinks menu ourselves. Again, when we were ordering, we were met with a quiet, bored stare from the waitress. Nobody checked back on us while we were eating and when we had finished our food we were sat for a long time without anyone collecting the plates, despite the place not being busy at all. Eventually a waiter came and cleared the plates... and didn't return. Nobody brought us the dessert menu or asked if we wanted anything else. If we had been given the menu and attended to, we probably would have ordered dessert and more drinks because we saw some yummy options earlier when looking at the mains. However, nobody came over so we decided to leave and got dessert from the Sainsbury's Local across the road instead.

Overall, the food was delicious and beautifully presented, but it's a huge shame that the front of house staff represent the place in such a disappointing manner. We didn't feel welcome and ended up having a nicer time at our apartment with our shop-bought dessert.

Staff was so unfriendly, there were people coming in and out and were not offered a table, and when the staff felt like it they took a couple to a table in the back which you couldn't see when you enter. And its bank holy day. We order a pizza to take away it took them 30 min and we were not offered a chair so we couldn't order even a drink while waiting. And stood there for 30 min in the middle of a crowded and loud pub/restaurant. We are never going there again. And the pizza was not even good to doughy and soggy

The staff were absolutely lovely and so welcoming, especially with the dog, which is why it got one star.
The rest of the stars are absent because after ordering the 'pig pizza' I had the worst case of food poisoning I've ever had. This pizza has so many different pork products that one of them could easily have been the culprit. I would have rated them higher if they had of responded to the email I sent them but just nothing, not even an acknowledgement.

Waited 20 minutes for drinks, and 45 minutes for food. The cafe was only half full at the time. Had the full breakfast. It was okay, but, the eggs were overcooked, the beans weren't hot enough, and there was no butter for the toast. Staff were not very attentive, only got asked about the food when they brought the bill and the waiter walked off as I was answering. The decoration was quite nice inside. Only go here if you have loads of time to wait.

This is an excellent restaurant from top to bottom. The décor is modern and tastefully done and the staff are very polite, helpful and professional. The menu is comprehensive with something for everyone's taste and good value for money. The food and drink is of a high standard and was served in a timely manner. Overall this restaurant ticks all the boxes and my wife, friends and I had a great evening. 5 out of 5 stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just stopped off here as the place we normally go to was shut for a referb what a great little find good food a little pricier than we expected but we both really enjoyed it. menu was not the one online and no gluten free pizza as advertised but the manager came over and explained the new menu and and what was GF so much so even NORMAL people ate The GF offerings unknowingly (HIS WORDS)

Terrible. I had ordered a menu about 30 mins ago and food has been too late. Even the clerk didn't say sorry and was naughty. It was a terrible experience and don't want to come here again. Never. One more thing. Why didn't the clerk Want me to have a seat next to window? Didn't she want to show ppl any Asian in restaurant through window?

The place was busy, the music great. Loud out the front but reasonable to enjoy and still have a conversation at the tables at the back of the pub. Menu was great - gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options. Cider was awesome, bobotie and pork dishes fantastic as was desert. Will go back

Had the hunk of pig but it arrived cold and with no mustard pot. My daughter couldn't eat it. They apologised but did not offer a refund or money off. Not as described on the menu, in fact not described at all. Just a hunk of pork pie with no veg or chips. Not eat here again.

The pig and the burger were raw, and the rest was inedible because of the massive amount of salt they used.
Only one waiter, had to take the raw food to the counter to have it cooked properly.
Around 6gbp for a baked potato seems expensive.
Would not recommend.

Amazing food. Kind staff. Bobotie is lovely I recomend it. We asked the mussels with cheese as a started and it was a big portion enough to share between 4. Nhami
Staff is kind. Parking is a bit tricky. Most of the places only let you park for 1h with 4h no return.

Rather poor. The pig pie is a cold lump of minced pork with a hard lump of crust. The response to 'no everything is not alright' was 'oh, sorry about that' and nothing else. No one on site available to take our comments. So it's here, instead!

Great atmosphere. Very good food. I had the Beef pasty - very nice rich flavour, lovely chunky (massive) chips, and tasty ale gravy. The chips were so nice and fluffy, but crispy on the outside; the beef was tender and rich; the pastry was nice and flaky.

Ordered Pig platter, pigs in blankets, halloumi and pork crackling. Tons of food and plenty to give away. A pint of Old Rosie was an especially unexpected treat. Music brilliant. Harry and Clyde were excellent hosts, most friendly.

Lovely staff, friendly and helpful, for anyone on a Gluten free diet this place is a must, the selection is brilliant, and they don't charge more for this. I'm definitely going again next time I'm in the area

Fantastic! Best breakfast and most welcoming to me, my vegetarian daughter and my dog. Will definitely be returning. Great food and company. I have left a more in depth review on Trip Advisor. Would recommend to all.

Atmosphere very good, food delicious and staff friendly. It's easy to relax and enjoy your meal.

The only thing can be improved is the speed. If you don't have enough time you should ask the staff.

Ordered a salad and the lettuce was cooked. Not even offered any sort of replacement for it, and staff tried to argue this is what i ordered. Ordered a pizza which was soggy and the crust was aweful. Terrible service.

Stylish cafe bar in the centre of Windermere. Table and seating arrangement is a little uncomfortable and cramped but there's a good bar and food served all day. Small amount of seating outside under heat lamps.

Very friendly staff and very tasty food. We just went in for a drink because it looked busy and decided to stay there to eat rather than where we had planned to go. Will definitely go again.

The food was very good and there was a lot of atmosphere. Personally I prefer the more traditional Lakeland pubs but if you want a modern restaurant then the Pig will definitely do.

Been looking for chips the size of a child's forearm? Ever been instructed to try and fit a whole potato into an egg cup? Look no further, Nirvana awaits in chip heaven.

What a gem of a place! Whether you are looking to have just a drink or a really tasty meal this place will not disappoint. Great atmosphere and very reasonably priced.

Nice place but drink was way too expensive and cocktail wasn't nice at all. Didn't get the chance to try the food but I don't think I'll go back.

Definitely the best espresso I've had in a while. And forget about the pig, try instead 'bobotie', a South African dish consisting in mince lamb meat.

Nice place and lovely staff menu is wide ranging but a bit all over the place, everything from curry to burger with fois gras, really! what about cheese and bacon

Great food and an awesome fire. I liked how the menu was split into starters, small plates and big ones. V easy to understand and the portions are very generous.

Excellent food and huge portions, good choice of beer and wine and superb staff!! Can't ask for more. I cannot wait to get back for another visit

The food and service here are 5 stars, but some of the tables are near the door, a bit draughty in poor weather. On street parking only.
