I have been using Veenas for the last 2 years and have always been happy.
However yesterday for the first time I wanted to buy some meat so I visited the butchers counter.
I should explain I am a white middle aged man who just loves cooking Indian food.
I approached the meat counter when there was no one else waiting and was ignored. so i just waited.
After 5 mins other locals turned us as well (Indians) and were served straight away while I at the front of the que was still ignored.
I waited another 5 mins (now 10 in total) with 6 customers being served and me ignored.
I left the shop and will not return. I will simply take my business elsewhere.
Very poor from a normally excellent company.
I would like to mention again the front of house staff are excellent. But the racist behavior of the butchers in this day and age is not acceptable and will put back community relations and ethnic integration significantly.

Veena's is a local South Asian supermarket located on Barkingside High Street and caters for Sri Lankan, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi home cuisine ingredients and foods. It is conveniently located for North Ilford, Hainault, Chigwell, Gants Hill and Redbridge. Veena's serves a large variety of snacks from 'back home', fresh veggies and exotic fruits, as well as the usual grains and spices. A convenient service of freshly grated or chopped coconut is very popular and much appreciated. There is also a fresh meat counter

One of the bigger Indian grocery stores in this part of London. They stock a comprehensive range of Indian groceries, from fruit & veg to herbs, spices, flours, sweets, savouries, juices and more. They also sell chicken, meat & fish. The shop does get kind of busy on weekends, and the queues at the tills get longer. Staff work hard to keep things ticking as they do their best to serve the customers quickly.

Started out amazing when they took over from Woolworths. BUT Since then. the prices has gone up. And the meat shop in the back, well the quality and standard has gone down!

they made their money. And gained customers. But the standards and prices will send them running soon.

GO green street or Ilford. Much better deals there

Place to buy many rare south Indian and general Indian vegetables and also for buying variety of pulses one finds in Asia and other food items may it be Idli batter or Kashmiri chilli so on .... Staff is very efficient and friendly. One always gets good deals and overall really good place to buy Indian grocery.

Good selection of asian foodstuff.
This is as good as you can get compared to other Asian shops in East London.
Price is reasonable and the food is fresh. Hence their business is good.
Don't understand why others rate it as 1 star?

Simply, Where you can buy all Indian/Sri Lankan food items. Very clean shop floor and friendly staff. This is my place, where i go for my monthly big shopping. Price wise its reasonable and they sell top quality items. I would definitely recommend this place.

Hate this place. My mother tripped and fell in the store and they didn't even help her up. She had to limp home.

The butcher at the back is rude. Refuses to give the amount we request, always charges extra.

Good options etc, but they advertise they take American express cards, and the transaction even goes through when you use, but they insist you don't use, probably because of the highest fees!

Everything that I need for my home groceries I can get it here. Being away from home no need to miss home food. You will get them all here. They accept card payment for purchases above £ 10 only.

Ordered online. Was sent stuff that was past the expiry date. Always check the expiry dates especially for the products you don't get in any other stores. They sell outdated stuff.

Health and safety in the shop is below the standard, there are packets of food left everywhere. Not a safe place to walk around and shop.Staffs in the butchers are very rude.

Our regular cash and carry for good priced Indian vegetables and spices. There is a butcher at the back for those hard to get meats - mutton, goat, chicken liver etc.

It is nice and has almost any thing you can imagine in it but it has a very powerfull smell that hits you as soon as you step foot in it.

Good place to buy Indian and srilankan groceries. Although bear in mind the prices are a bit higher than other grocers in ilford.

Everything you need for an Indian household. Unfortunately queues get a bit long . They also sell halal meat , which is a bonus.

Use this place mainly for currency exchange as its usually a better rate than others. Also useful for Asian cooking ingredients

Fresh Vegetables, Reasonable price, Friendly staff.

Great products and selection, but they have a minimum of £10.00 for contactless. They really need to revise the policy.
