Visited the 'kings arms' with my family friday 8th July we have been several times before including when it was known as the 'herons nest' . . .
When we arrived and taken to our table we where told most items on the menu Okay - but we have no sirlion steaks mmmm not a good start for me. . (friday evening 7pm - no steaks) ???
'anyway what ever' then first round of drinks seem to take ages to arrive at our table even our then waitress no1 appologised for the delay . .
so anyway proceeded to order our food which was taken by waitress n01 but then after a long wait delivered to our table by another waitress say n02 '(why so many hands)' i ordered the batterd cod with 'chunky chips' as stated on the menu' when it arrived wow how dissapointed was i chips where thin (macdonald type). ? not as stated on menu and very small portion i could count them on my plate. ? no explaination as to where the chunky chips where. ?? however i over heard someone else/customer asking for same item and was told we do not have 'chunky chips'
after counting the portion of chips on my plate my wife asked the waitress because of the issue could we have another portion of chips to make up for my disappiontment surely i would'nt be charged - ''wrong''. .
i will finish my review by saying my experiance was not great but this is not the first time at the now 'kings arms' i felt i have not got value for money and at a cost of £106.00 (odd) you expect as a customer a lot better - i would be gratefull for any feed back or comments anyone would like to e-mail back to me. (p.s i forgot to mention when eventually we got our first round of drinks after long wait my wife's drink was wrong ). .*

the main attraction to the kings arms is that it is a canal-side pub so you expect to sit, eat drink and chat with a lovely view of the river. Unfortunately The Kings Arms seems to be more of a car park side pub unless you can find a good seat which there happens to be very few of. The food portions are often small and i cant say i was too impressed with the taste texture or temperature of the food either especially given the somewhat high prices.

The interior of The Kings Arms is actually very nice i would describe it as a rustic place given a modern look (in terms of decor) i especially like how it looks upstairs not that I have ever actually stayed there.

all in all the kings arms is a satisfactory/good pub, i feel the main appeal of The Kings Arms is its appearance and its location as it is a good walk down the canal to get to it.

i would reccomend going to The Kings Arms if you are walking down the canal
if you are driving however drive to somewhere with better food, better prices and a BETTER DESSERT MENU

...please make your dessert menu more interesting

Arrived at 1:30pm on a Sunday, car park was very busy but when going into the pub it was not very busy.

We were advised to sit down and someone would come over to us to take order. When we sat down the edge of the table was dirty causing my partner to get food over his jumper. We waiting over 10 minutes before having to ask a member of staff for menu's and to take our drinks order, then again we waited over 15 minutes before having to ask another waiter where our drinks were (2 cokes) and to take our order.

When the food arrived it was not value for money, I ordered the roast pork loin which was £11 and there was hardly anything to the dinner. We ordered the 9oz steak aswell which when brought out was cooked less than requested. Also with my daughters meal there was a salad which consisted of tomato, cucumber and a large amount of red onion, I cannot see any child eating the onion that was provided.

The staff seem to be walking round a lot but when you sit at the table they just walk past and pay no attention.

Won't be returning. Poor value for money.

Went for lunch at 3:30, restaurant empty. Received our drinks, the waitress said my glass was dirty and would change it, she never came back. Chased for a glass to be told they were all disgusting and placed one of these glasses on the table (I sipped out the bottle). The head chef (or quality chef) decided to hold a meeting with the kitchen team and took all the staff out of the kitchen and proceeded to 'feedback' which ended up sadly in a two way brawl in the restaurant, (we're still waiting for food). 20 min later the waitress asks the chef to return to the kitchen. Two of the chefs instead leave dressed like basketball wannabes and the two other chefs continue to 'feedback'. 40 min waiting, no food, no clean glass, only one chef in the kitchen. The head / quality chef should have cared more about the customers than his precious feedback (which should be given in private). We walked out and will not be returning!

Been here a few times on two occasions the food has been not to my liking on this occasion I ordered a roast chicken dinner and then the waitress came out after about 30 minutes for said we've got no roast chicken you can have chicken breast instead I said no I'll have to roast beef please the roast beef came was thrown down on the table and nobody came to table check or asked if it was ok so just carried on eating I couldn't eat the beef it was just pure fat and yellow fat which was absolutely disgusting I get up and go and find to complain to the manager lady she didn't even come and look at the plate to see what was complaining about she must of just known it was rubbish beef and and asked if i wanted some free desserts I said no thank you and she just said said she'd credited us the money for it.
won't be returning

I noticed them, that I may arrive around midnight. They said that is no problem, but wanted me to call them just after landing in Birmingham which was about 11pm. I did but the phone line was closed at 7pm. I found another phone number but again it was dead, just answer machine. I decided to go and tried to get in. I knocked few times, but nobody opened the door. They forced me to drive home for another 6 hours! I was awake for 26 hours that day, but fortunately arrived home safely. “Thank you” King’s Arms Hotel!
Everybody think twice if you want to stay there. I can’t recommend...

Eight of us just had a meal at the King's Arms the starters were good but things went downhill after that. Five of us had to return our meals because they were cold and not that hot when returned. Came back on different plates minus some of the contents and replaced with others. So lost my Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower but actually got potatoes which were missed off initially. They were not particularly busy as this was a Sunday evening. Really a shame as we have previously used this venue as a half way to meet rest of family. We will be looking elsewhere next year.

We were very disappointed with the food and service at the Kings arms on bank holiday Monday (7th May). I ordered the mezza from the main menu the falafel's served with it were frozen inside when I bit into them. I took my food to a member of staff behind the bar and was not given an apology the plate was just taken off me and sent to the kitchen. I waited whilst everyone else had now finished eating for my food to return which again when it arrived no apology was given and I was just told by the member of staff second time lucky!

The Kings Arms (formerly the Herons Nest) is a part of the Vintage Inns chain. It is a lovely pub just outside of Knowle, Solihull and is situated next to a canal, where there are some permanent moorings.

Service has always been exceptional, and even though it is part of a chain, the food always has a home made and rustic feel. There is a good selection of bottled beers and cask ales, as well as a good wine selection.

There is accommodation available, however I have never used this.

None existent service.

The food was nice, almost pleasant, but that does make up for a truely terrible service.

Having to ask multiple times for the same items to be delivered.

Food that took well over an hour to turn up, when the place was half full.

To top that off I had a stone/pebble in my starter. How did that happen? If which the staff didn't seem to care.

The place is underserving of your custom. Go somewhere else.

Mediocre at best.
I paid over 80 at bill.
The food, mediocre at best, was served late - 60 minutes after order - and was quite mundane considering its elaborate description on the menu...
I'm not sure what to say (ill keep this brief) but go to weatherspoons as service would be better;
this place is disillusioned, unless your a local then maybe its 'fancy'.

Service was the major let down after late food.
Was not peak.

Hi...we had a table of 8 last Saturday. From the moment we arrived and throughout the meal we were very disappointed with the service. It was fairly quiet and there were plenty of staff but none seemed to want to come to our table. Food took a long time to arrive and really wasn't great. We didn't bother with desserts as starters and mains were really not enjoyable. The decor and location is great but please sort the basics. Staff need to be trained.

Nice, big, canalside pub. Good range or drinks. Only had desserts and they were excellent and served quickly.

Edit. Went in for brunch the next morning, attracted back by the great looking brunch menu. The 4 of us were the only people in the restaurant with 4 simple orders - it took an inordinate amount of time to come, and even then one meal took longer still to arrive. Decent food, but really have no idea how it took so long to prepare.

Average dinner, average service, Price reflects location not quality of food, desert was supposed to be covered in chocolate sauce but was like water, had to send it back and get something else, not the first time we've been disappointed here, we had 2/3rds of a meal refunded previously because it was all well below the expected standard. Not sure why we came back actually.

Was a great looking place with a fantastic menu, had to go back to it several time before I'd made my mind up. Went for the wagu burger in the end, burger came out looking fantastic! Unfortunately, cold untoasted bun and salsa on the burger was so cold it ruined the taste of such a well cooked piece of meat. Other than that, lovely place to go for a meal with family.

Our group of 18 were delighted with excellent food and service, yesterday.

Could have done with 2 on the bar as, with 18 of us in the queue and only one poor chap taking our orders, taking the money and then pouring the drinks - it was a long wait.

However, we all want to come again next time. Thanks,
Jill Campbell

Pleasant if slow and disinterested staff.
Tables not well cleaned.
Wifi very poor.
Drinks okay.
Food not brilliantly cooked nor on time, but the bass fillets we eventually received were tasty if a little expensive for the size of serving.
Could be good with excellent management and an interested chef.
Better pubs nearby...

long wait on food, couldn't get a table to fit 10 of us so sat scattered on different tables for an 18th meal.. food all come out separately.. 4 of our meals come after everyone else had finished eating.. steak was £24 and full of gristle, kiddies chicken was dry and hard to bite!! food is over priced for what it is.. WILL NOT BE RETURNING!

Although the menu isn't cheap, what you get isn't cheap pub grub. They present everything beautifully and what we had tasted amazing. On a summers day the beer garden is so lovely and not only is it kid friendly more importantly it is dog friendly with fresh water bowls regularly topped up!

Lovely view and staff are very helpful, but really let down by the quality of the food. Some of the food we had been 'hot held' which caused it to go leathery and dry. This is fine if the food was cheap, but paying around £18 for a sharing board I would expect the food to be cooked fresh.

Lovely canalside pub with a good although rather familiar menu. It's pleasant to sit outside, although be aware that only the nearest tables get full service; there's a more limited menu for those on the grass. Vegetarians get a lot of goats curd, which is good if you like it (I do).

The taste and quality of the food was great but what spoilt it was that the portions were small. I had a frozen yoghurt dessert that consisted of about 5 raspberries and a spoonful of yooghurt for £5 I was still hungry when I left after a 3 course meal and I'm an average eater.

Booked last minute had a lovely bottle of red wine £15 and Sunday lunch the lamb was so tender hubby had trio meat was beautiful veg cooked real nice and beautiful roast parsnips and carrots a lovely pub friendly pub a great find for us as we are out of the area enjoy all

Pleasant enough but it just hasn't got 'it'. Outside dining is tired cramped and scruffy. The casual tables on the grasses area are just plunked together and the car park dominates the outside. The bar area is ok with lots of books and crannies.

Food was OK but why can't you have a sandwich on its own, charged for chips whether or not you have them. The fish finger sandwich was lovely but the teacup size portion of chip's were a waste of time and money - just wanted sandwich !

The food was good quality, smallish portions. The service was excellent and the staff was attentive. It wasn't very busy, so this might be different at busier times. Decent selection of wines. The menu was interesting and varied.

Good waitress, lovely food (cookie wasn't quite assume warm or soft as I was expecting, but tasty. Told we would probably have to wait as they were serving a big group too, but actually food was served within a reasonable time.

I would give this 4.5 if possible as no where is perfect. Lovely cosy place that is also spacious. Sat by real wood fire. Food was good if slightly fancy in terms of layout. Would prefer to sacrifice fancy layout for quantity!!

Poor food, mezze was tasteless, flat breads were like chewing leather. Ham egg and chips, well 12 chips, eggs were so over cooked they would have bounced, Ham was nice though. For the quality, completely over priced.
