Myself and three friend's had our Christmas meal here in December 2017.

The food was not at all fresh it had clearly been cooked very early in the day and was served with an abundance of thick lumpy gravey to disguise the fact.

When the cheese board was served the cheese was dry and the crackers where stale and the grapes had seen better day's.

To add insulte to injury we where then over charged by £36. I have been in contact with the Manager for the past five week's, after a multitude of e-mails he has finaly agreed to refund the money.

I was reassured that the money had been paid into my bank but to date I am not in receipt of the money.

As a matter of principle I am now taking this matter to Trading standards.

With the choise of eating places in Chelmsford I would personally not choose to eat or drink at the Bay Horse.

I had a table booked for 3.30pm on today (sunday) for 9 people... when we walked in at 3.25 we waited at the front desk for 10 mins before someone eventually told us they would bring kids menus over to us and showed us to our seats..... this is where we waited for the next 30mins. No menus, no body even offered a drink to any of us.... no body even noticed when we walked out in disgust!! The worst service I have EVER experienced!!! If I could put less stars I would.

Had afternoon tea there today and it was lovely. Had a lovely selection of sandwiches and was asked before they prepared them if anyone had any allergies or anything we didn't like or if anyone were vegetarians which I thought was very thoughtful. The scones were beautiful and the cake was scrummy! Would definitely go there again. Wish I lived nearer because would love to have an evening meal there next.

Went last night and the food was cooked by a new young additional chef. Excellent three courses even the mash potatoe was fantastic and the sponge in the dessert had a rich egg taste.
Waitress was charming and attentive even though they had a couple of large parties turn up unexpected.
The evening was a better and far less expensive night than a visit to the New London

Today (WED )my wife & 5 friends went for prebooked lunch @ 12_30 tried to order 2 bottles of house wine was told because they had a busy weekend !!! Only had one bottle of Pino & one of sauvignon in the pub which would cost them £40 (£37) discounted !!
What a shambles so ladies left to nearby. Pub
Where there patronage was appreciated

We had a traditional afternoon tea there. It was all fresh and very nice with particularly large but light scones. They have a small car park but it was almost full and it is not clear which spaces can be used by hotel guests and which you will be fined for using so we had to find a public car park.

Nice building, with low and old ceilings, very nice staff, reasonable prices. Different rooms both indoors and outdoors. Live music and other activities frequently. Good place for groups. If it is not full wait times more than correct.

Terrible
They got our drinks order wrong to start with, then they had run out of two of our food orders, in the end it took ages for the food to arrive. Additionally, the burgers were tasteless. Thoroughly disappointed

Amazing what wonders a fire can do!
Place looks great inside and service always good.
Food gets good marks, doesn't wow though.
Music tends to be tad loud depending on who's playing that night.

Friendly staff, terrible beer. Three of us ordered the three different ales which were on tap but none were drinkable. Should have complained but didn't bother, just left the beer and went.

It isn't what it you think it would be like from the outside! Very nice inside. Service was rather slow even for a Saturday night though as they didn't seem to have enough staff.

I spent my formative years here. A lot has changed in 25 years. The place has its fans, I think it is soulless. They have live music at the weekends which tends to be of a high standard.

A beautiful venue with extremely friendly & attentive service, food worthy of a Michelin star & cocktails mixed to perfection. Full 5 stars!

Pub / restaurant with excellent food, live music at weekends, and a lively outside area. Great little place two minutes outside of the town centre.

Very good food. Tiny little mistakes and long wait for bill payment the only issues. Everything else was great. Reccomend if you have not yet!!!

I'd searched for beer pubs but there wasn't a great choice and the whitewash seemed trashy
