What a fantastic place! We came as a group of four for dinner on a Saturday night, having heard good reviews since it was taken over by the Marco Pierre White chain, and we were not disappointed!

The menu was fresh, varied, seasonal and exciting (we all said we could happily choose anything from the menu). We had a variety of muscles and beef bourguignon between us for mains which were absolutely delicious.

Staff were friendly and attentive and the bill was appropriate for the standard you are getting, but still not extortionate. If you're expecting pub prices, you'll get a shock, but think fine dining and you'll be pleased.

Will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend!

Very disappointed in the quality of food and vegetarian options. My dad ordered duck and it was very poorly cooked, very over done. My vegetarian ravioli consisted of 6 pieces with a sauce bumped up with veg on the side. I asked for a side salad instead. After complaining tge excuse was that the veg bulked it out (a cop out!!), they added 3 extra pieces. Cheeky!!! A staggering £12 for the main course too.
A restaurant that is saying that it's good is very poor. It's a shame that the Dining Room has gone which did extremely good food.

Took an age to be served between course. Had to tell them they had forgotten things. Food wasn't even hot and all 4 of us were ill for two days after. Staff were more interested in hanging out with each other rather than serving. It was a very very expensive disappointment. I should have paid attention to the reviews. My mistake. If this was part of my group of pubs I'd get Gordon Ramsay on the case. Big disappointment for what was supposed to be a big night out for our family.

I've been lots of times now and still rate this pub. I'm surprised at the low reviews on here. It's a bit more expensive than the standard chains but the menu is different, pleasing and very well cooked. The service has always been great when I've been there as well. I hope they increase the number of tables you can sit at with a dog underneath in the winter as when outside is too cold they won't have enough for a pub that's right by Reigate Heath.

Travelled up from South Devon to see family, and I thought Torquay was expensive. Couldn't fault the food or the excellent staff, but, one of my major gripes is the arbitrary 10% overall price increase, in our case it was even on the bar drinks as I'd put them on a tab. This should be made illegal, I determine what I pay for service given not the venue, who tell us this goes to the service staff, you charge well enough money to cover a decent salary.........?

Excellent service attentive staff , menu a little fancy with pretentious descriptions but get past that & the food is well presented & delicious. Recommended wine for one of our party was way too pricey being £23 for two medium glasses. If you used to visit under the old management you should expect your bill to be almost double now! If you are prepared to pay for the experience I can recommend the Black Horse but it's definitely on the expensive side

Packed restaurant for lunch so a good sign!! Thought food was ok - the biggest shock was £26 for 2 drinks. Gin & tonic and large glass of rose wine. So drinks bill exceeded our lunch - unbelievable. When questioned about the bar bill, another table overheard and said they had the same problem. Will not be heading back. But visiting The Running Horses in Mickleham where you get great food and drinks prices are realistic ! Not a happy customer.

On arrival we were greeted by the friendly bar staff-who informed myself and my partner of the specials of the day, we were then shown to our table in their amazing beer garden, which has beautifully tended flowerbeds. We spent most of our Friday off in the garden as it was open all day. Our lunch and dinner-hic- were superb, simple food done well-the scallops and black pudding starter was divine! Mmmmmmmmmmmmm-I shall definitely be going back!

The service here was fast and efficient whilst the food was very tasty. The only possible downside is that it's quite expensive. This was the first Saturday of it's opening so whether the service will stay like this is open to question though.
Note that all previous reviews were of this restaurant under previous management and before the total refurbishment.

Is it just me noticing, that what is a great pub to go to, is fast turning into eaters only !! very rare now to go in for just a drink after a walk and be able to get a seat in the bar area, as pretty much all tables are now laid up for food and reserved. Such a shame for us dog walkers and i'm sure many others who are unable to enjoy a drink at a table.

Awful. Waited an hour for food. Scampi was not whitetail as advertised. Duck overcooked and pricey at £13 for a quarter with some salad. Food all very average - the pub is part of a chain of 6 or so pubs so clearly not cooked fresh and brought in. Noise quiz on our night and we were not told about it when we booked. Wish we'd gone somewhere else.

Been here a few times over the years. Now it feels like a cheap chain pub - no atmosphere and a strange layout since they refurbished recently. The best thing about it was the staff, who were very good, but as we didn't eat here I can't comment on the food - we left after one drink as we were so disappointed.

Whilst not expecting Michelin star food, I was hoping for something a bit special from this 'high end gastropub'. Unfortunately this was simply another pretty average corporate chain restaurant. If Raymond Blanc says he wants to see a revolution in British pubs, he's failed miserably.

Three of us had the roast dinner and it filled plates and tummies, I had the fish curry which was set out in a minimalist artistic design that filled neither. Waiting staff still fulfilled the basic roll of moving items from one location to the other, lesson two required.

The Menu was absolutely class with some quite unusual such as the kangaroo steak among other's, I think the garden could do with some easy sitting chairs instead of the benches & looking at their BBQ would love to go there on a sunny day.

Finally the Black Horse nails it!
After years of refurbs, new management and fluctuating food quality - they have finally got it right. Excellent decor, ambience and service. The menu is great - and the food is creative and very tasty.

Very nice pub, seeming very rural but really close to Reigate. Lots of different types of beers and ales on sale which was great to see and really comfortable outside area to enjoy in the summer!

Overall an enjoyable visit. Mediterranean salad starter very nice, mini burger good, pork shoulder meal expensive for what was on the plate (not a man size portion). Sauvignon blanc delicious.

Expensive even for the area, poor service, booked a table and they had no record of it. Food ordered but came at different times, staff inattentive. Far better alternatives in the local area.

Excellent food and service. We were a group of 9 and everyone's meal was hot and served quickly considering it was Mothers Day and the place was heaving. Definitely would recommend.

Food is very good however the staff aren't trained very well and the service is incredibly slow. A shame as the place is very cosy and comfortable but the service lets it down!

Nice pub super busy, Sunday roast was good and not rushed out. Staff were friendly, I advise you to engage then if you think things are not moving fast enough.

Lovely selection of alcohol and a warm, friendly team of staff. However the food is very pricey for the portion size. £3.90 for four padron peppers, really!?

We were a party of nine people for Sunday lunch. We had roast beef and for puddings we had spiced apple crumble. Very good. Nice staff.

Expected less and received so much more

Very nice food and helpful staff. Offered to replace beers that were cloudy without us even asking. Slightly expensive but worth it

Very nice lunch. We had cod and stuffed aubergine. Plenty of parking space and good setting. Highly recommend the set menu.

We had a table booked for 6pm to take advantage of the cheap limited menu which was excellent. Service and food brilliant.
