We came to the poplar farm on a Sunday afternoon for a table of 10. We was very disappointed!!!
Food was a shamble and had to be sent back to be warmed up after waiting well over an hour which didn't go down well. The 'trio roast' being at £16 is a BIG STAY AWAY this is the dish that needed to be sent back due to majority ordering this option. Cold, tough, burnt, horrid!!
Manager didn't even come over and appoligies instead he sent his staff to deal with us and offer free desserts. And they wasn't much better! Items forgotten on plates. All thrown together. The atmosphere wasn't the best due to a massive argument erupted in the kitchen when full of guests.
Very disappointed wont be going back and as being a birthday meal it just didn't go down well for all.

This is a delightful pub inside & out with plenty of seating. It is very popular particularly at weekends so booking is advised. A good drink selection including local ales and lovely food too. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The kitchen service is sometimes a bit hit or miss and this may be linked to the day/period. Ive eaten 2 spectacular meals here and two where Ive had to wait whilst colleagues are eating and after a polite prompt had excellent food presented but everyone else had finished. I still go back which is a good sign but will see how the service progresses before making any harsh decisions to stop visiting. Local produce all cooked very well indeed, you wont be disappointed but be prepared to be patient and dont expect a free drink for having to wait too eat alone.

Had supper here on a Friday evening. The decor and ambience were really good with friendly helpful staff. I had a fish pie with veg and my wife had steak and chips. The fish pie was excellent but the veg was almost cold and stale. My wife's chips were great as was the pepper sauce. However, the steak was completely inedible. It was ordered 'pink, no blood' but came well done and impossible to chew. I mentioned my complaints to the waiter and politely asked him to pass them to the chef. When he came with the bill I said 'what did the chef say when you told him?' The waiter replied 'he didn't seem bothered'. I paid the full bill and left. Not only was the meal well below par but it was really disappointing that the management weren't bothered.

We booked for a party of thirty seven for Easter Saturday to celebrate our wedding anniversary and special birthday. Initially I was worried from the response I got from the manager, however after meeting the members of the team and in particular: Anthony, and the female assistant manager I was reassured. I cannot speak highly enough of the responses we got from the staff, they were so helpful and professional. The food was amazing! All served at the same time! The quality of food was of a very high standard. The staff made our day extremely special with their hospitality and efficiency. I highly recommend this venue for special occasions. All our family and friends were very impressed. Thank you to the staff for a very happy and relaxed experience.

Went for a Christmas eve early dinner (5pm), with 7 adults and 1 2yo. Staff were friendly and food was prepared quickly. Food was of good quality and portion sizes were decent. There was a good range of options for all in the party.

Atmosphere was good with open fire and medium levels of chatter heard at table.

Lighting was interesting and there were some very dark sections of the table, there were a few issues with reading the menu...(This was not a problem and possibly due to rearrangement of tables for size of party.)

Overall would happily go again for a meal.

The pub is a really nice place to go and eat. The decor is good and it has a proper traditional pub feel. There is also a fairly good selection of beers on draught which is always good to see in a pub as so many now have such a limited range.

The food is really good. My only complaint would have to be the chips. They are undercooked and still hard inside. They could do with double or triple cooking to get them crispy and soft. Otherwise the food is good and there is a good selection on the menu.

It is worthwhile visiting but avoid the chips!

We went last Friday evening . As soon as we said we had a table booked .We were taken to our table . Waitress arrived took order
Drinks arrived first course delived no problem .then it started to go a bit astray. Mess up on food .the first food arrived not ours . We later found out poor lady it was only second shift . At all times she did her best .to many glasses on table .none remove at any time . Food was good .we will return
Think when new staff start they should be with other staff. Not dropped in it on a Friday night. Which was busy.

We live nearby and were looking forward to having a pub that we could easily walk to when we bought our house, having been spoilt by living so close to the Royal Oak in Clatford. We have tried it out on a number of occasions over the past 3 years hoping each time that it would improve on the previous time. We have unfortunately left disappointed every time having had mediocre food and service. On a couple of occasions they have had very limited stocks of food so menu choices were very limited. Disappointing sums up our experience.

The last time I had a school dinner must have been... let me see...1983... until today!
The tart I think must have been left on the side and forgotten about for a few hours and then shoved into a microwave. And trust me... popping it onto a bed of dried out veg in a jaunty fashion to give it some allure just doesn't cut it.
I have eaten here many times and it used to be really good... way above average... but sadly it is in decline... go elsewhere if you can... shame.

Not a great night. No pies, roast beef or fish and chips available. And when we ask for a pudding this had run out too. They did offer ice cream at no charge.
Another diner complained as they had one carrot, one flat Yorkshire and one stuffing ball, between the two. Kitchen did send out some more veg.
Staff told me that they were sorry, but this was the 5th Sunday in a row that they had issues. Not a great advert for eating on a Sunday.

Nice little pub with reasonably priced pints and a good dessert menu!

Edit:

Came here for a Sunday Roast. Good portion size and perfectly cooked beef. Avoid the cauliflower cheese, not much cheese and far too much paprika or chill powder...

Not very flexible with minor changes to the meals either which was disappointing. Still, solid roast and reasonably priced.

Went on a Sunday evening- no roasts available, no seafood available, only basic beefburgers from the burger range, very few starters in stock and pudding selection was also limited- overall a pretty poor showing. Service however, was friendly and prompt, and what food was being served was tasty. Hard to recommend when the food advertised isn't there, but you could do far worse.

Friendly atmosphere, good food, reasonably priced for this type of pub. Good customer service. We went on a Sunday and our food arrived just warm, I mentioned it to let the chef know and they apologised and gave us free pudding and coffee. I would treat his as a one off and look forward to trying more from the menu in the future would definitely go back.

Terrible!!!! Lack of service, a lot of waiting for everything!! Food was burnt and served cold, missing ingredients forms dishes and flat pancakes for Yorkshire puddings!!!! Both kitchen and front of house should be ashamed of yourselves!!!! Ruined a family lunch out, just wanted to leave ASAP. Do not come here - just awful.

This well positiioned pub and restaurant could be good if only it wasn't over ambitious on its menu. It recently advertised for new chefs so there is hope for improvement. Food can be overcooked and service can be slow at times. Staff are very friendly and children are well catered for.

Some items on menu not available as pub had run out (1:30pm) Sunday afternoon.
Long wait between courses for service, dessert dishes could have been better presented and teacups with saucers would have been good! However, the main food ordered was good and well presented.

We like this pub as its presented very well but I don't think we'll be eating here again. We've tried many times but have very rarely left satisfied with the food and tonight we left feeling underwhelmed. Such a shame and it could be and should be so much better.

The food was lovely however it did take over an hour to arrive...resturant staff terrible..the manager was doing his best to pacify the clientel with drinks etc...i think the kitchen staff had gone home..shame on the staff who kept blaming the bad weather last week!

Waited far too long for food of which a few dishes had to be returned to the kitchen. Staff were friendly enough however few and far between. Not a great dining experience for our party of 11 celebrating a birthday. Won't be returning in the foreseeable future.

We dined here last Sunday, the food is on a par with top hotels in london. I only live 15 mins away. I will use it at least once a week. excellent. I wish i'd know about it sooner. Cant believe we have such a good restaurant on our doorstop.......keep it up

Great atmosphere, out of the way pub, lots of great food choices. Lovely beer garden. Staff always friendly and approachable. Service is pretty quick. Middle of the range prices, do have set meal deals available sometimes though. Lovely location.

Very pleasant surrounding. A cheery welcome. They have a good choice of food and children's menu. The food was very nice and the service was very reasonable . There is a car park towards the rear with a reasonable amount of parking .

Visited on a sunny Monday lunchtime. Food is averagely priced, we had lamb shank, and a cod n' chips, followed by two desserts. The food was fine, ample size, no long wait, nothing to complain about and no reason not to visit again.

It was our 32nd wedding anniversary, the other day , went there for a meal, food was excellent, service was so slow, felt like we was forgotten, to the extent we had to get up and ask for the bill, very poor standard of service

It's ok not outstanding. Popular for food so book a table. Dog friendly in the bar area. Outdoor tables shame the garden isn't prettier. Nice location but it has a busy road next to it. Car parking.

Many of the starters not available , roast dinners cold , carrots and parsnip not cooked , many of the puddings not available , chocolate brownie burnt . Will NOT be returning to this 'restaurant' !

Good food. Nice setting. Lovely staff. Average menu prices but overall good value for money.

2nd visit was a bit of a let down: not great service or food, and some items not available on the menu.

The odds were not in their favour, Saturday night. An AWOL chef and a power cut. None the less staff were amazing, and didn't lose their sense of humour. Food was great. Cheers
