I was very disappointed in Vivat Bacchus. I went with a friend and found the menu small, relatively expensive and uninspiring. The wine was nice and a chilled red was a new concept for us but it was good. The food was however decidedly ordinary. The croquettes were bland and my burger was overdone and a very small serving. Most south africans i know wouldn't have even considered it a starter. I think i expected too much from this place so left disappointed, but atmosphere was nice and a great location so perhaps we were just unlucky...

Vivat Bacchus, London Bridge, is a bright restaurant. The leek & potato soup was lovely; croutons arrived soggy in soup instead of served on side. Risotto with courgettes was good. Pork chop with sweet potato & pickled apples was nice, but fat should have been rendered a bit more. Raspberry Eton Mess was good, & lovely Creme Brulee. Also, waitress upsold us a bottle of wine (only 2xwine glasses ordered)-& did not apologise. Manager resolved. Generally, pleasant waiting staff & reasonable food.

They offer the 'Cheese Room Experience', a unique feature of Vivat Bacchus that we chose on a whim. You are led into a tiny room, an entire wall and beyond of which is filled with cheese and cross-referenced by region. You can taste as many cheeses as you like, and once you have chosen your favourites, they turn it into a cheese-board for you, complete with specially selected crackers, chutneys, fruits and crudites. This was certainly a treat, but one in which I warn comes at a steep price.

A good choice for lunch or supper in the area: a wide-enough selection on the menu takes only a short while to arrive well-prepared and presented at your table- they have the art of the speedy turnaround here, without apparently resorting to a heavy compromise of quality.

Wine is the key theme, but I haven't taken the opportunity to enjoy that aspect yet - something to correct on future visits.

Staff are able - pricing is in-line with the area.

I walk past this place every day to and from work and it's always busy. Finally got a lunch invite and had a lovely salmon starter followed by a main of Iberico pork and finished offer with a cheese board. The break was lovely, the drinks were great and the service was spot on. From a price perspective I didn't pick up the bill, which was a bonus, but the prices were reasonable especially when you take the location into account.

I was actually feeling a little unwell due to the heat and staggered into this delightful place where the staff looked after me very well. I did not eat as I was suffering from a hypo (diabetic low sugar) but I was not pushed intoo spending more just looked after. Having returned home I have checked out the menu and will definitely be visiting next time in London Bridge. Great wine and cheese list to savour.

Excellent find tucked away in the lanes around London Bridge. Fantastic atmosphere and friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff for whom nothing seems too much. The Sauvignon Blanc we had was a super choice chilled and served to perfection. The wine list and cellar is vast and extensive, I only wish we had had more time to try another bottle or 2.

Very tasty food to a very reasonable price. The wines are good but expensive though. We came for the food and would definitely come again!
Then when we asked for the bill, a 12.5% service charge was addes. Maybe we overread this, still a little too much and I therefore substracted one star

Great selection of wine and Cheese. Went with a group of friends, had an awesome time particularly in the Cheese room tasting and discovering all kinds of cheese for our Board. The main was also well cooked and presented. Will definitely recommend however bear in mind it is priced above average.

The service was not so good the last time. However, the atmosphere was pleasant and I liked the interior too. The rose wines and also the red wines are one of my favourite ones. The mixed salad is always fresh and also you should try the Springbok burger.

Delicious food but very expensive. The service was very attentive, maybe a little too attentive, but I don't pay a tip if it's put on my bill, so they had to go without. If they hadn't tried to mandate the tip, I'd have happily paid!

Had a lovely swordfish dish hear. Wine , cheese good ( went to cheese room). Service good ( and was included in our bill as group of 6). Quite pricey, but if you limit yourself to main and cheese, port and cheapest wine (£23 a bottle) , you might enjoy

Amazing wine list (especially South African) and cheese room. A good place to try different kinds of meat such as springbok, kangaroo etc. The food is always good but the service is variable. Had a wait a while to settle the bill at a recent visit.

Got the english cheese plate and the south african house sparkling wine.

Great experience. Solid service - although at times overbearing with plenty of water service.

There is a nice patio outside the restaurant as well.

As a vegetarian I would not choose to go back. The vegetarian options were limited and the taste was passsable. The sticky toffee pudding dessert was worse than average. The only good point was the red wine we had was very good!

Perfect post work. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed and it's worth the extra pennies for the cheese room experience - time to taste as many cheeses as you like and a customised board! Highly recommend

Good cheese selection, the staff will talk you through a tasting and recommend different cheeses.
Excellent wine menu, if a little expensive. Had a stunning Malbec.

Came here for a friend's birthday. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, despite being a veggie, and the live music was absolutely awesome. The winner went down a treat too :)

Wonderful meat and wine selection. Run by a really passionate owner, and they have frequent events if you're interested in learning more about wine and/or meat.

My new favourite place! What a great menu, lovely atmosphere. Great staff, excellent wine selection. Next time I'll make sure I don't have to drive

Fantastic food, great service from the waiting staff. They have a cheese room which is very popular and some really stunning wine. Something for everyone

Very much overrated. Very poor quality of food. They were busy when I went there but it does not explain such low quality food, undercooked items, etc.

Tasteful decor and good food at reasonable prices.
Staff are a bit intrusive though. Keep butting into conversations to ask if everything is OK.

The main courses were amazing but sides and starters were a little small. Good service and a huge selection of pricey wines if that's your thing.

Up market gastro restaurant specialising in good food, quality wines and a dedicated cheese room. Consistent quality and standards of service.

Average City watering hole. Much made of the cheese room but it was nothing to write home about. OK if someone else is paying the bill

4.4 stars. The steak was amazing with a pleasant setting and helpful staff. Enjoyed the food greatly but feel the choice was limited.
