I've not been to the Tall Chimney in a while but decided to go for Mother's Day. It has always been quite good in the past. This time was different though...
When we arrived we had to wait for them to clear the table, we sat down but none of us felt comfortable with the table/seating so we asked an employee if we could be moved, he went away but did not return. We asked another gentleman when he had seated another family and he was happy to seat us on a different table.
We went up the bar to order our meals but the employee behind the bar did not know anything about the Mother's Day offer that was on and had to get it clarified by another employee.
The meal portions have become smaller since I last went and even though on the menu the lasagne came with 2 ciabatta slices, it came with one that was cut in half. My meal was hot but my friend's chips were barely warm.
We was given someone else's dessert because they had mixed the tables up.
My friend's little boy had spilt a drink on the table, luckily I carry around tissues as the employee we asked for napkins did not return with any for several minutes until she brought our desserts.
Before leaving I asked about the deposit I had paid for when booking over the phone, I was told it should of been taken off the bill when I paid at the bar, which it hadn't been and they couldn't even find my booking even though they had it when I entered.

The only positives about the visit where that meals arrived quite quickly for saying how busy it was in there and I was served quickly at the bar when I went up.

What to say ! Worst staff behind a bar ever - totally oblivious to providing service with a grin let alone smile. One customer complained of a fkat pint, to which one staff members answer was to pour into another glass and top up slighly and reserve! Three asks for ice and then used leftovers from another custmoers stuffed in a plastic cup.

The food looks nothing like the menu pictorial - bleak, cold, burnt, better to fish. Only 8 chips for a fish and chip dinner, to which weren't even cooked, and peas cold. We were served dirty cutlery - to which i recvied a filthly look from staff for asking for new ones - and filthy tables.

Half hour wait to order plus over half hour to for food to arrive. To which came on chiped plates by the manager, who didn't understand our disgusted looks, needleas to say we just walked out of this filthy place bonus - car park was free. Abysmal.

For what you pay the Tall Chimney is a good value food venue. The staff are friendly and welcoming however at busy times having to place your order at the bar is a slow process. Not enough bar staff means you queue. Table service would speed the order take up and greatly improve the dining experience. The food is tasty and plentiful and the steaks represent great value for money. The menu offers a good choice and there are daily deals that save you money. The pub decor is a little tired and could do with a makeover but the ambiance is cheerful and the seating comfortable. My minor chief grumble - the menus are always sticky. Give 'em a wipe down guys.

It's reasonably priced and the service was ok. Could have been quicker at the bar and clearing the table, but the food came out quickly.

The food wasn't brilliant, but it wasn't really terrible either. Saying that, the Porky Platter was pretty poor - a day old Cumberland sausage and sickly cheese sauce. The sundae had fresh strawberries in...but they were just tops with the leaves on (I said someone must have fetched them out of the bin after they ran out of decent strawberries!).

Can't complain too much for the price, but we won't make it a regular haunt.

It's cheap, that's the plus. It's rubbish though really. The food varies from ok to bad. We visited on Saturday afternoon and I cleaned my own table, got my own cutlery and then only my partner's food came. They refunded me for this. When I did get my chicken burger it was just dry with some sad old looking lettuce. It's such a shame that one of the only food places to go in Swadlincote is so bad.

Food took so long! 30 mins for dessert.
My dinner cold! Staff didn't know what was going on! Partners food was ment to be gluten free. The tomato soup was separated and cold. We did say something nothing was done! Not happy wouldn't go again. We only went as we were meeting up with friends we haven't seem for about a Yr! We came from Ipswich! We stopped for McDonald's on way back!!

To be fair, the food is always good however staff can be good and bad. Tonight staff are slow or not around. Other half waited with other customers at the bar to order for a good 10 mins, no staff around until the manager noticed and went to get them from the back. Had to ask for the table to be cleared when desserts were brought out. Not the best night we've had here, usually better.

Christmas lunch here. 45 mins after arriving we had starters, an hour and 15 wait then till main course. Then waiting for desert past an hour we have up and complained. We had been before at Christmas and all was good but 3 hours plus when you have young children is not good... We didn't wait for desert. We had booked In advance so they knew we were coming... wouldn't recommend.

Myself and my Fiance popped here and a couple of weeks ago and have already been back. When looking at the menu it was great to see such a variety of choice, it has a bit of everything\\u200b. Monday-Saturday they have a different discount on so some nights it may be a free dessert or starter or selected food at a discount price. Easy pub grub, pop in if you are around

Another disappointing meal. Ribs were tough as old boots, chicken strips that had apparently been cooked in Frank's Hot sauce were eaten by my 9 year old daughter who hates spicy food! Chicken wings were cooked within an inch of their lives. No sweet potatoes fries, Again! Based on previous experience it's rare to get what's advertised on the menu!

Was excellent when first opened. Slowly getting more expensive, staff are always friendly and make sure that you're happy.quality of food depend on which chef is working (Don't expect to get a steak done right if you eat it blue) but overall food tastes great here. service speed is ok but terrible on a busy day, tables also take a while to be cleared.

Went there for my granddaughter's 18th birthday, the table booked for 7:30,we arrived at 7:15 ( 16 )of us, although we where advised everything would be ready, it wasn't,we had to put tables together ourselves, the food mediocre, my granddaughter was upset to say the least, I personally would not recommend this place for any more than 4 people.

Went for breakfast expecting a nice full english breakfast but what arrived at the table was not quality. The sausage was so hard it wasn't edable. I dont think it was a pork sausege. The bacon was ok but the best bit of the breakfast was the toast we had to pay extra for. Wont be ordering breakfast again.

The staff are always pleasant&extremely helpful, the food is always piping hot&well cooked.Disabled access throughout, the disabled toilet is always clean&tidy.Spent a very enjoyable St Patrick's Day in the pub,it was lovely to see the staff dressed up in green to mark the occasion.

Easy to get to. Plenty of parking available. Staff very accommodating when we phoned for a last minute table reservation. Typical menu - burgers, chicken, pasta, veggie options etc. Quite a wide range. Prices are low and you pay for what you get. Saying that, the sharing sundae was huge!

Beer is really bad here, Toilets Rarely Cleaned, Bad service + Takes ages to be served, Food can be hit and miss, and they are always out of something when ordering a meal. cheap gastro pub full of undesirables and degenerates during the weekend (including friday) nights.

Staff great and good service, unfortunately food had to go back as it arrived cold, but it was replaced and new came out that was hot, mistakes do happen and it's how they're rectified that matters and this was rectified pretty quickly, so average marks

Arrived for breakfast with Santa. Staff unprepared. Tables bare with no Xmas cloths or crackers. No sign to say the area was just for this occasion, so had to keep moving other customers. Extremely disappointing. I just hope that Santa actually turns up!!!!!

Nice food and well priced with good specials each day of the week. Takes a while to order as always appear to have limited staff behind the bar. Also requires you to move the dirty plates to one end of the table whilst awaiting someone to collect them.

Food is great but the burger meals are a little small. Some staff seem very nice but some don't seem very happy to be there, but overall the place is lovely and local to have a meal at and happily come again. (Happy to recommend).

Food ok. Took ages for food to be brought to the table. Asked for kids meals to be brought first only got half of them, rest came 20mins later with adult meals. Wasn't given enough cutlery for all of us (8 people in total).

One of the better hungry horse restaurant/bars I've always found staff pleasant and very helpful. Had a turkey dinner today and it was lovely. Didn't have to wait long either for saying there was quite full

Sadly not for me. The food was quite poor. Overdone chips, not many of them. One limp lettuce leaf on the burger. Staff polite but nothing memorable regarding friendly customer service. I won’t be visiting again.

We used to love visting the tall chimney pub before we got served cold food on one occasion and then the wrong food on another, with minimum staff and long bar waits we just don't bother going anymore .

Brilliant today. Fab Sunday dinner, beef beautifully cooked and lovely warm chocolate fudge cake. Children's dinners are very generous for little ones. Compliments to the chef and kitchen staff today

Pretty nice Hungry Horse chain pub/restaurant.
Service is pretty quick and good quality food.
The specials such as curry are re-heated from previous day however.
Saying that it tasted OK.

It's not a bad place, but it's very family orientated, so if you're prepared to have lots of children making lots of noise, then it's great. Also we waited forever to get served.

Car parking right outside sometimes difficult to find a space as surrounded by shops, staff friendly and welcoming suitable for a table for two or groups typical pub grub at reasonable good price

Pretty standard pub chain restaurant. Friendly enough staff and decent choice of pub grub, burgers etc. Can get quite busy and has some good booths and sections with entertainment for the kids
