Nice food. Outstanding location, views to die for, lovely atmosphere especially on a summer evening. Shame about staff attitude. Spent over £180 with ten others, my wife had an £8 cocktail that she didn't like so asked if she could get just a lemonade to have with her meal, not a replacement or anything near the same value. Lad said that was fine, made good sense given what we had spent. Came back and said bar staff said no, we needed to pay for a lemonade, it was our fault we chose the cocktail. While I agree, this was terrible customer service, makes no business sense whatsoever and meant the offer was reneged on embarrassing the lad who was serving us. The attitude to customers is clearly one of take it or leave it. Clearly every penny is of huge importance, maybe hard times for the pub I don't know but it spoilt our lunch and left a bad taste in our mouths no pun intended! Have emailed them and so far had nothing of a reply either.

We had a great time here. The food was amazing and the location perfect for a bit of beach lunch and pints. Even though the day was miserable and rainy we had a great time. Several of our group had the sea bream and risotto special and it was outstanding. You'll be hard pushed to find better food served in this area. Also, they have plenty of staff and even though it was really busy inside we were served at the bar within minutes. Note - it's difficult to get a table on busy days - no reservation system as it's a pub - first come first serve. Worth turning up early and waiting, well worth it.

The Anchor Inn is one of the best places we've ever stayed anywhere (and we have traveled the world). The rooms are spacious and amazingly decorated. The bath rooms are large, we even had a separate soaker tub! The sound of the waves lull you to sleep each night. You can sit on the patio and gaze at the timeless endless coastline. The food was wonderful. I'd try the 'toad in the hole' it was tasty and filling and don't worry no amphibians are used in the recipe. I loved our time there. The staff took care of us like family. I look forward to our next visit.

The food, the service and the location are excellent! The beer garden overlooks the crashing waves below; you can almost feel the flung spray from the sea. I had the burger and it was delicious, as was the fish and chips, which was enjoyed by my family. We asked for some water for our dog and we were given a whole bottle. It's just little things like that which make the Anchor Inn so excellent - the addition of sweet chilli sauce to the burger, the speedy service, the chunky chips with caper salt. If we ever visit Doreset again, we will definitely be returning!

Location very good
We looked on their web site last night saw some really nice pictures of meals so expected big things but sadly no they don't do those meals anymore.
48.00 later and very disappointed
Light snack was a bowl of lettuce leaves with 5 pieces of mackerel.
Main dish of poached hake with chicken stock bland no taste at all. The bread for two was good. I asked bar staff what rainbow chard was to be told it was fish when in fact it is a vegetable. Felt ripped off after won't go back.

The Anchor Inn has recently been refurbished and we stayed in a beautiful room with a huge bathroom with twin sinks and a roll top bath. There are lots of lovely little extra touches in the room, like homemade shortbread and slippers! The location is perfect, right next to the beach with the sound of the waves crashing to send you to sleep and sheep bleating to wake you in the morning. Breakfast was delicious; freshly cooked and large enough to last you all day! Really couldn't fault it.

Violent food poisoning from this reataurant , would strongly urge customers not to visit or eat here.

My mother and I ate fish and chips here on the 28th of May and both got violently ill afterwards. After contacting the restaurant 3 times to inform them of this, no action was taken and no responsibility was taken by the management of the restaurant so we feel very disappointed at the care we have been shown as customers.

Beautiful pub and location. Friendly staff, good food and drinks selection including the now favourite british pastime... coffees , and seating outside with sea and coastline views.£4 to use the car park but you can earn that back by spending £20 in the pub or filling a small bucket with litter from the beach (great idea). Walka up the coast are stunning just don't het too close to the edge!

Lovely food, friendly welcoming staff and a great view.
I came here with friends. They ordered the fish and chips where I only wanted something small so ordered the children's fish and chips. We were surprised to see there were hardly any difference in portion size between the two! Mine was just half the price :)

Disappointing - have been going here for approximately 40 years. On our latest visit we found the prices have risen (again) £15 for fish & chips - which we were told was Pollack . The bar area was far too hot - which would account for the very warm coke drink which was also flat ! Staff not as friendly as on last visits

this location is stunning, the beer garden sits on clifftop with beautiful view of the coastline to Portland to the east and devon to the west. and the food is very good too! only minus is you can no longer take dogs into beach tho there are fields and hills to walk on. a must fir a summers day visit!!

Lovely staff - we were running late driving up from London so called ahead as the kitchen was going to close a few minutes before we got there. They took our order and kept it warm for us - we were very grateful! Food was top notch as well with very fresh fish and the local wine was a nice surprise.

Food was fantastic and the staff were really helpful and friendly. Had the hotdog, it was amazing! It was a proper sausage which was a nice surprise with the usual trimmings and the chips were great. Throughly recommend this place but be advised space is limited and you may have to eat outside.

The Anchor pub has a wonderful homely feel as soon as you walk inside. The service is good and the food delicious. There are various different areas to sit outside and eat all with views over the beach. Some cosy and shelted others open to the elements. Will definitely go back next time .

A dying breed...a pub that seems to care about what it looks like and what it puts on a plate for you!
The quality of the food alone made the 2 hour walk from Charmouth, including up and over Golden Cap, worth every bit of the effort.
To sum up....wish it were my local

Take away the location and this pub would shut within a week.
I've be coming here all my life and in the past couple of years the prices have gone up and quality down.
Very disappointed.
Check out the pubs up the road they are a lot better.

Friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. Well kept beer. Food was great and made for a memorable visit. Multitude of places to eat inside and out, although cliff top too cold in February to spend more than a few minutes. On a sunny day the views were wonderful.

The food looked good, but the member of staff that I encountered was so snooty & rude when I asked him a simple question (he couldn't even be bothered to make eye contact with me) glad that I only stopped for a half and will not be going back.

Family of four, had the burger, Hake with soba noodles, kids fish and chips, and kids hot dog - and I would have been happy to eat all of them myself!
Gorgeous location, faultless staff, and very reasonable prices.
Kid and dog friendly.

Hi everyone, I wrote a review which was not gushing with praise re an awful meal we had last Sunday. Will never eat there again, unless they get a new chef. Resting on their laurels I think. Anyway my review has disappeared - very strange?

Good food, beer and friendly staff. Pork tenderloin looked and tasted delicious! Duck pate was lovely for lunch with a few chips and a pint of the italian lager. Cosy seating areas made for a friendly atmosphere. All that and by the sea too!

This is a fantastic pub! Although it can get busy during meal times. If you can find a table you are in for a treat! Would recommend the Kracken Chips!! (Its almost a meal in itself!) and also the Fish and Chips is awesome!

Fantastic place. We were staying nearby for a night and Passing through. We stopped and spent the whole night getting to know people both visitors and locals. Great food, great staff, great view. 10 out of 10.

I have visited The Anchor 3 times in the last month and every time I have found all the staff to be very helpful and friendly even when it was incredibly busy. Will keep on coming back with service like this!

Cosy little pub by the bay. Although the food looks amazing its pricey & not much in the way of Bar snacks. However the pub seems to be fairly busy most of the time I was there. Visited in the spring.

Probably the best little hidden-away restaurant ever. I love the fact that their seafood dishes are fresh from the ocean and actually really fairly priced. I absolutely will come back for the mussels!

Excellent pub with very friendly and professional staff. Good range of Palmers ales. Spend over £20 in August to receive your £5 all day beach car park fee as a discount (take your ticket with you).

Staff were a bit miserable and we were left waiting at the bar to be served for a while without any acknowledgement 'that they would be with us as soon as possible'. Food was good though.

£13 for a small veggie burger, several extremely greasy chips and snooty service. Perhaps the good fortune of being able to trade from an outstandingly beautiful location has gone to their head...

Great selection of beer (Palmer's brewery is only a few miles down the coast) and ciders. Food was delicious and reasonably well priced. Family and dog friendly with lots of outdoor seating.
