I would recommend this pub. The food; my partner and I both had Bury Black Pudding Fritters with Chilli Jam for starters. These were divine but heavy, not recommended for those going for the three courses! The batter tasted quite sweet which was a really nice juxtaposition with the black pudding and jam.

For mains I had Beer Battered fish and Chips with tartar sauce, mushy peas and a side of Onion Rings, my partner had homemade Lasagne which I couldn't comment on. I am lactose intolerant and the waitress was only too happy to go through the menu with me and see what I could eat. The fish tasted like it was freshly battered, and the batter was nice and delicate. The chips appeared a bit anaemic but were nice and fluffy inside, but they say the first taste is with the eyes. There was plenty on the plate, more than enough.

As for the pub itself, there was quite a nice atmosphere, although the tunes were a bit all over the place; jazz to light R&B. Nicely eclectic but jarring at times.

The service was reasonable although the staff were somewhat absent at times, seemingly to prefer to wait by the entrance and use their phones. Somewhat disappointing but not enough to ruin the experience, just left a sour taste after a £50 meal.

Absolutely worst dining experience i have ever had, i strong advise you to avoid this place at all costs. Go to a restaurant in a main town, to avoid huge disappointment. Waited over 1 hour and 30 minutes for a truly repulsive meal, it was a standard pub meal that was not worth the price we paid. My steak was so overcooked it tasted like eating charcoal, my guests received wrong meals, including a wrong type of steak and cooked rare, which my guest hated. At the end the bill was wrong we was charged each for the most expensive steak, despite not receiving this. Horrible and vile staff that are not caring or understanding, i felt physically ill after leaving this venue, i felt nauseous after leaving, it felt like a prison. I had to leave a tip due to having no change, despite not wanting to, but i wanted to leave the bad atmosphere quickly. Avoid a ruined night or special occasion book elsewhere, this is going on my blacklist, i and family and friends will never visit here again in our lifetime. J W Lees pubs are absolutely hideous the brand and company will go downhill quickly, which is why this pub only had a small amount of people in.

We stayed for a few nights on business and at first glance I was somewhat 'dubious seeing this unique building in the middle of nowhere, even the taxi driver joke about it when he left me there. There are few places in the area but I have to say that this is' very cute. Staff friendly and helpful, very nice atmosphere, the rooms are spacious and really clean and confortoveli. Breakfast typical English course, not a buffet, but also very good. I also had dinner here and was satisfied. So of course it recommended if you're in the area, for sure we do not go to the event!

NOT RECOMMENDED! V.rude staff and unwelcoming a member of my party confronted the manger only to get laughed at, over charged, long wait only for the wrong order to come, rushed to leave the table as they were 'busy' (their were 3 groups of 5 in there), the food was a tasteless and didn't agree with me ( bar the hand cut chips) literally nothing went right, they even brought the wrong drinks out! After my experience am surprised the place is still running. Never ever will I step foot in this establishment again. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Drove out here over the weekend just gone, after seeing the Inn had been done up since I was last there. Ended up having a full Sunday Roast with my partner. It has become a really nice place to be, wonderful views (even with the heavy rain and wind!) and the food was outstanding.
The chef was a really happy chap, nothing was too much trouble and he had a wicked sense of humour too. Will definitely be back here again, cannot recommend it enough.

Went in on Sunday 15th Feb to be greeted with 'Have you booked a table by a very snotty girl ' we said no but can we have one please? the answer was 'No there is no tables available we are booked up'
we were going to leave but decided to have a drink at a table that we could have dined on because it was all set out ready and we sat there for over a hour ..so what was the problem??

too snooty and stuck up staff

My husband and I stayed here on a Saturday night recently. We were made very welcome and were pleasantly surprised by the room that we were given. Our vehicle broke down during the weekend which meant a change of plans, however the staff at The Turnpike were very accommodating and went out of their way to assist us. Our evening meal was exceptionally good! I would highly recommend The Turnpike Inn. Thank you.

Food excellent
In all the times I've been to this inn I've never come away disappointed. The food is of the best I've ever come across and always plenty of it. The staff are very attentive and professional, making every visitor feel as though they are the centre of attention. If you're looking for something special then you'll not go far wrong by making a stop here.

Sick of this place - 3 times we have visited on a Sunday for the carvery and each time they have stopped serving. The first time they just said they weren't doing food, the second they said the ovens weren't working and the third they said they had just stopped serving.
Website says they serve food until 9pm, clearly they don't!
Won't be going back

Arrived here for a meal to celebrate a birthday. The menu was nothing like as shown online, a lot more limited and the options were seriously more down market. Took them fifteen minutes to come over (after we had ordered drinks) to let us know that the only two decent menu items were not even on. We pairs for the drinks and found somewhere else

If I could have I would have put No stars, I tried 6 times to phone ahead to the turnpike to determine if they were dog friendly. Somebody kept picking up the phone and putting it down on me without saying a word. I am so angry that’s just down right rude and I always thought this place was lovely, will not be recommending it any more!

In a beautiful setting with a lovely interior they had a roaring fire going on what was a very cold snowy day. The staff were very warm and friendly. The food was delicious although food that wasn't on offer was still on the menu. Maybe to mention that when presenting the menu so as not to disappoint.
Will definitely go again.

Lovely service, staff were very friendly and helpful. We had three small children and were given a table out of way so they had space to play and not disturb others. We didn't have a reservation and arrived about 2pm for Sunday dinner and we're seated straight away. The portions are generous and the quality is really high!

A fantastic pub/restaurant set in a stunning location, great food and drinks, caters for weddings etc, with a great opportunity to have photos taken across the road with a lake/dam and scenic landscape background highly recommended. Also has bed and breakfast available. The premises opens at 09.00 for breakfast too.

Only went for a drink as they weren't serving food due to a large party in the function room. Expensive for 2 cokes ....but lovely decor and good that was being served looked nice. Will definitely try again if we're over that way....wanted to go as we always pass when going over to the Easy on the M62!.

Went for a meal with the family, as we do each year, a little get together for Christmas. To be honest the food was dreadful! Vegetables were cold and raw. Staff were rushing us on to order our meal, it just looked like they didn't know what they were doing. We won't be planning anymore meals there.

Nice room, bed and bathroom small. Out of hours exit and entrance via a slippery balcony and high metal staircase and through a low emergency exit, not ideal for elderly. I thought expensive for what it was at £135.0 for a nights stay one double one single which didn't include breakfast. Will not return.

Polite friendly staff, who wanted to make our experience a good one. We just stopped for drinks due to time constraints but have had dinner there before and it was wonderful. Would recommend this place to anyone. The exterior and interior are beautiful, clearly the owner takes pride in his or her business.

My partner and I stopped by for a drink on out way into Hebden. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Views from the beer garden at the front were excellent. Drinks prices were what you would expect from an establishment of that nature, a little expensive but not enough to break the bank.

Fantastic moorland setting with superb views and log fires with accommodation..the extensive moderately priced menu is good and the staff very friendly ..lots of free parking & convenient stopping point on the Pennine Way .. Lots of hovering kestrels to photograph..

Our car started making funny noises and this was the first place to stop. The very kind lady let us fill up water bottles to try and make the car last until the garage a few miles away, and use the bathroom, even though they weren't open. Thank you so much.

Friendly, relaxed and efficient service. Nice atmosphere, comfortable surroundings, stunning views, fantastic food.....a wee Jem off the M62, we'll be making a detour just to come again. Cannot recommend this highly enough (the butchers board....wow)

Handy location for us, half way between home & one of the kids in Wakefield. Stopped for a meal en route this week. Food is nice, staff friendly but I'd say it's overpriced, especially the wines. For that, they lose a *

Fantastic food and lovely staff. We've found a real gem here. All the food is home made and freshly made to order and prices are reasonable plus their chips are home made which is hard to find these days absolutely 5 stars

The food at The Turnpike was delicious. We had the festive menu, which was an excellent price and had the right amount of choice.
The staff were friendly and attentive. We would definitely go back!
