No Housekeeping after 3PM only on weekends
It's a nightmare to get a simple towel or toilette paper
Only a couple of rooms have air con
Many rooms have a steam who doesn't work
Sometimes they provide electric heaters
Rooms don't have fridges but they provided on request, the problem is sometimes they are out of fridges
Another nightmare is the room service
It takes hours and the food gets cold
The bathrooms are old
Showers don't work
Sometimes toilettes don't flush
Wrinkles on the bath
Maintenance issues are only solved on the morning
Balconies dirty
Swiming pool not proper cleaned and overcrowded
No porter to take the luggage
Breakfast trays stay on the corridors all day
Restaurant food dry out of vegetables and desserts not homemade as said on the menu
Tables not properly cleaned
The same table was not properly cleaned not on dinner time and on breakfast time
Hotel charge prepayments in cards that guests only give as guarantee
Hotel charge credit cards whithout asking for the customer authorisation
Hotel doesn't worth the money they charge

This hotel is located overlooking the sea, but is a long walk to the beach or town centre, unless you us the nearby lift, which is expensive.
A busy times the car park was overloaded.
The room I had overlooked the car park, but was clean, roomy, but poorly maintained. Two of the tree lights in the bathroom were defective and a wall light and the lamp standard did not work ...so would suit Troglodytes. I reported these defects three times, to no avail ..poor show.

The service was good but food was fair only with meals served with few vegetables.
At breakfast the porridge offered on two occasions was water-thin, and barely warm (they use just one small candle to heat it), to be fair I did complain and the second days porridge was thicker .......but still not hot ...so the hotel does not learn from feed back.To get toast you have to use one of those pathetic rotary toasters ..that take ages and after one pass you get slightly singed bread on a second pass you get very lightly toasted bread ..on a third pass ..if you have the time, you call the Fire brigade!
Its unlikely I would stay there again.

Lovely sea views and conveniently situated, gorgeous grounds and general public areas.

However, there are some negative points, the hotel is so uncomfortably hot, the rooms are also, there was air con but this was not working or disabled. Windows opened but still too hot.

The rooms are dated and in desperate need of repair and refurbishment. Many things not working or on the verge of failing, for example the flush on the toilet was almost falling off, tv channels worked sometimes.

The large double bed was actually 2 beds pushed together and seemingly had no brakes on the wheels, so if you wanted to be near your partner during the night, you run the risk of falling between the beds.

The staff were great at breakfast - when you were able to locate one to sign you in and seat you. Breakfast itself was lovely, although when items ran out on the Buffett, these were not checked or restocked often enough.

The hotel bar is also beyond expensive.

Finally, the hotel car park costs residents £10 per night in addition to the costs of the room, this was hugely disappointing.

Overpriced, dated and disappointing, don't go!

Location was good , breakfast was good.
We paid £414 for 2 nights in a family suite, but the suite was a standard double with a single camp bed. The camp bed was very uncomfortable and springs were poking through. The room was dated and smelt damp. The bathroom wasn't clean and was dated . The shower screen seal was falling off. We asked for a cot to be put in our room and when we got there, there wasn't a cot. When we finally got a cot, no bedding was provided . When we asked for bedding they just gave us a towel!! If you are providing cots it's not unreasonable to ask for cot bedding too surely? Overall, not what we were expecting for the money we paid. Floorboards were so creaky that we could hear everything in the room upstairs, waking up the children. Holiday inn would have been better! Car park advertised as free on website but we had to pay £10 per day when we got there. Then we went out for day and there were no spaces in the car park we were paying for as it was a pay and display car park! Overall not happy at all.

Spent the weekend here early March 2018 for a Ladies Festival. The organiser speaks quite highly of the people he worked with.
Rooms are comfortable and furnished well, if - perhaps - a little dated.

Due to the extreme weather conditions leading up to the weekend, there were apparently issues with supplies for the Friday night, though they managed to successfully feed over 100 people. The meals were a little strange in choice, though!

Breakfast was fantastic though - good old fashioned English breakfast, cooked well and buffet topped up regularly.

Staff not quite silver spoon, but pleasant enough (except the lady in charge - I think - of the restaurant; she was top notch!) though Louie was a lazy git ;)

Our stay has turned into an episode of Faulty Towers! Room great but every thing else has been a disorganized shambles. Over an hour to get our first course in the restaurant last night. Housekeeping have run out of clean towels but taken the old ones.
Our friends room looks to be half way through decoration, there is masking tape everywhere?? What is going on with this hotel. Not sure I want to stay another night. Now locked out of our room because they can't fix the key card system.
Update: We gained entry into our room after half an hour and after another half hour an engineer fixed the fault. Also since we complained to the Manager about the poor service last night, I have to say, the service is much better.

A room for 20 people was double booked and our party had to be moved into much smaller one, we we're cramped in such a way that could not even be served food the correct way because of it. With regards to food, was quiet bad as a lot of us didn't finish it and expressed disappointment. My mushroom soup was tastles like from a cheap tin from supermarket, the mains was a very, very dry chicken with a small bowl of vegetables shared between 6-7 of us , no sauce was offered, so had to ask for gravy for everyone. The desert was very small and unappetizing, did not taste good at all and the drinks were extremely expensive. I do not recommend this place.

We stayed at the Carlton for five days with our son and family. We found the staff helpful and friendly. Our room was rather small but comfortable, the windows were old and wouldn't open very far which was a nuisance as it was quite hot. The bathroom didn't have a shower cubicle hence I had to clamber into the steep bath to get a shower. This hotel is in need of some loving care but improvements are being made. No complaints with the food, the buffet breakfast was excellent and the evening meal very good. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to come again.

Have used their leisure facilities twice. Both times were in the school holidays and in warm sunny weather. The outside pool area is very crowded and sun beds are reserved very early. The pool is lovely & warm & of reasonable size but again does get very crowded. Members of staff are attentive and snack bar drinks prices very reasonable. There is only one shower in the changing room which are quite small and could do with upgrading.
The location is in East Cliff which is only 10 - 15 mins walk to bournemouth town centre, train station & pier & 3 mins to beach.

Pretty awful.
Got a deluxe room which had a lovely view but that's about it. The room was dated furniture, linen, walls and lamps were tatty. There's mould in the shower.
Bath didn't fill up so after driving from Leicester to high Wycombe to Bournemouth neither my partner or myself could soak our aching backs.
Don't bother calling '0' or help noone answers.
Don't trust the staff to come back to you as you will be waiting hours.
All in all... not worth the money. Bad service. Will not be returning.

We stayed here in july 2018.
We booked a room on the upper deck but was very disappointed that they gave us a room on the ground floor, to make matters worse it had a wet room facility, something I was not too happy about. The food you can tell it wasn't fresh at the bar. The staff were friendly though and the breakfast was nice and varied. The whole place needed Gordon Ramsey to help them with the decor as it was a little on the shabby side. All in all I would return but on the condition we get what we ask for and not where they put us.

Lovely hotel, good facilities for the kids, quality of food good, room service good. Stayed here a few times excellent family room. The staff at reception are helpful especially Fiona, who was very pleasant and helpful and made the stay even more pleasant, when Fiona greeted us she was very warm and welcoming. We asked if we could change the room as the children were not happy, Fiona checked and found a room available and swapped us without any problems or hassle. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Very nice and friendly people. The service was very good as well. We have chosen this hotel for the proximity to town centre and to seaside. However, the hotel is very old, with old furniture and decoration is neglected ( some electric plugs not working, hair dryer not working, paint in bad state). We had to change room because the shower was not working. This hotel does not meet the 4 stars standard. I would say it does not even deserve 3 stars. Avoid if you can.

Stunning view from our standard room. The beds are very comfortable and the hotel is fairly quiet. There are a couple salient points that don't warrant this hotel for 5 stars. Rooms can get very hot and uncomfortable, the showers (at least on 3rd floor) are a mere trickle and extremely annoying if you are in town on business. Staff are ambivalent to complaints. Breakfast has a lot to be desired and there are much better local breakfast spots to visit.

Good hotel but old and needs some refurbishment. For example Bath board is inflated on the corners because of water, sides of the bath need proper silicone instead of multiple times painted wooden planks. Room is too hot and need AC. I only could sleep with two fans. Also a small non-steam iron is not effective enough. Not enough power sockets. On positive side, amazing location, heated in door and outdoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi are priceless.

Stayed here for our complementry anniversary stay with dinner and breakfast as had our wedding reception here last year. We got given a sea view double room which was huge along with a huge bathroom. They also sent us a complementary bottle of champagne as they weren't able to give us the same room as before. Staff were excellent, bed was super comfy with a lovely view and food was amazing!! Will try and come back each year!!

Most disappointing hotel ever!!!
They messed up our booking and then gave our rooms away without even a courtesy call.
They then tried to charge nearly £500 for a room already paid for in full.
The food is atrocious don't eat here, raw chicken, overcooked burgers and terrible stakes full if gristle.
The rooms are falling apart, cold showers, unusable plugs and broken draws.
I would never stay again

I just spent 2 nights in this lovely hotel, very friendly staff, excellent size suite and fabulous food.

I especially liked small menu for dinner which still managed to offer excellent range and I found the portions just right, not too large, the seasoning was perfect.

This is an excellent hotel in a great location and I shall certainly be back.

Family room is a rear facing room its equiped with a nice double bed so parents can sleep well however the sofa bed is uncomfortable . The food in the hotel is simple but expwnsive a burger with a soft drink cost around 17pound . The pool was occupied for a function but alternative pool is being offered in the hotel next door. Overall experience is ok but prices are too high.

Left the hotel hours before checkout and called them informing them I had left £400.00 worth of make-up in the drawer and to post it to me. They did not check the room until late and said it was not there. They also never called back when they said they would. This hotel has no policy with dealing with lost items. Do not recommend.

Very clean, good customer service ( head waiter exceptionally good CS), luxury tripple sized room oozing with retro character, very comfortable bed, lovely views, minutes from town, great travelzoo deal at 179 for 2 people, 2 nights, dinner for 1 night (free bottle of Proseco ), breakfast 2 mornings, milk tray... cannot complain

Room clean and comfortable if not a little shabby. Based on experice falls short of its 4 stars . What i'd expect of a 3 star rating. The outdoor pool could do with a good clean as the bottom and sides have patches of green slime suggesting it is not regularly maintained. Staff are friendly and very help full

Pleasant one night stay. Clean room and spacious for a family of 4.Son's birthday and staff made good effort. Card and chocolates in bedroom and singing at dinner. We had accommodation and food included but weren't aware that kids meals weren't included. Food overall was good and staff.

Hotel was bit tired in places and would benefit from updating, but was otherwise ok. Evening meal was disappointing with the chicken being dry and tasteless as though it had been kept hot for too long.
On the plus side the location and view from our room was fantastic, and the staff pleasant.

Rooms clean and comfortable has been quite warm over the past few days but no AC Room stuffy with no ventilation and windows not opening properly have to next door as the restaurant is out of use at present but food good and well priced overall not a bad place but needs a little overhaul.

Had a lovely 2 night break. Staff very friendly, food very good and room clean & spacious. It was a special deal but still all of a high standard. You will always find parts of older buildings tired however it was nothing to affect ones stay. Thank you.

We are staying 2 nights for our sons wedding the wedding has been organised by the planner Helen who is fantastic. The rooms could do with updating, there is a strange smell in our room coming from the bathroom plug holes . over all a nice stay

The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, always happy to help. The leisure facilities were fabulous and our room was very spacious and clean. For our first holiday with our 10 week old we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.

We were lucky enough to choose The Carlton as our wedding venue. All of the staff did a brilliant job in making the day special but in particular we want to thank our wedding coordinator Helen who made sure everything went to plan. Thank You.
