Unfortunately I had the displeasure of staying at the fleece with my partner on Saturday night, June 3rd 2017.

The room was ok, if a little tired, but the staff were a disorganised rabble, and providing any kind of service was clearly an inconvenience.

On the Sunday morning, we arrived for breakfast at 9am, halfway through the advertised service 8 - 10am.

It was clear that nobody was in charge as empty tables were not being cleared for later arrivals, and the continental breakfast had not been replenished, so most things had run out.

There was barely half a glass of fruit juice left between two of us.

As there were no cleared tables, a member of staff asked us to sit at at table in an adjacent room, ans she would come and attend to us in a few minutes.

This seemed reasonable as another couple had also just been asked to sit there.

Oh how wrong we were.

The room turned out to be a thoroughfare with other guests frequently passing by heading in or out of the hotel.

After 20 minutes we had to go and find someone to take our cooked food and hot drink order. The staff member who'd seated us seemed somewhat surprised, that we were sitting there and appeared quite put out that we wanted service. The empty tables had still not been cleared, and the continental breakfast had not been replenished.

It took nearly 15 minutes for a pot of tea to appear, I had begun to wonder if they were waiting for the tea bush to grow. One medium sized teapot between two seemed somewhat miserly given the price of the rooms. This did not bode well.

We were also promised butter for our croissants, which, unsurprisingly with hindsight, never appeared.

A further 15 minutes later, after we'd begun to wonder if the local hens had gone on strike, and refused to lay, a staff member returned to inform us that our hot food order hadn't been taken, and asked what we'd like to order.

This was in fact quite curious, as I'd watched the previous staff member write our order down along with that of the couple seated opposite.

At this point we gave up and left as, having waited nearly an hour, we had no confidence that any food would ever appear. The couple seated opposite had not been served any food by this time either. We don't know if they waited any longer.

I have stayed at hotels all over the UK and Europe, and this is the worst service I have received by some margin.

The organisation was so poor, and the staff so disconnected from reality that I thought we were in an episode of Ramsay's kitchen Nightmares.

On checkout, we spoke to who we believe was the manager, but it was hard to tell as he didn't seem to care, and seemed happy to just brush it off.

I think one of the bar stools would have been a more effective manager.

The debacle at the fleece has left me feeling fleeced, and has spoiled what had otherwise been a lovely family weekend to celebrate a special birthday.

I am only grateful that the birthday meal was held over the road at The Bear where the service was outstanding, and the food was excellent, as I can only imagine how shambolic it would have been at the fleeced.

I would recommend people to avoid this place like the plague, but, on consideration, the plague may be preferable.

It's a shame I can't give zero stars, it's certainly not worth the one star.

Our final disappointing visit; we won't be returning. My husband and I went for a rare 'date night' to this local eatery, however from the poor service to the disappointing food we will go elsewhere in future. Our waitress was inattentive, and spoke in a flippant yet derogatory way about the food ('yeah, I've had that and it wasn't very good' and other such comments). She didn't take a drinks order on our arrival, then was very slow to deliver our wine when we had ordered.

To add to this, our entree of squid was lacklustre, and the squid-ink dip had a very gelatinous (snot-like!) consistency. My husband's tempura prawns were bland. And for my main I enquired about the seafood linguini asking about the quantity and heat of the chilli used. The waitress assured me she would ask the chef to 'go easy' on the chilli, as I really didn't want that to overpower delicate Prawn and mussel flavours. When the dish arrived it consisted of pasta, 4 prawns, 5 mussels and 2 small salmon cubes (about an inch long). Upon stirring and tasting the dish (no, there were no hidden stashes of seafood that I had missed!) it was all coated in strong chilli oil, which left my lips and palate greasy, and the taste of any seafood was immediately dispatched. My husband had a mouthful and even he found the chilli overwhelming. I returned the dish and had beer battered fish instead (as that was all I could remember from the menu and my husband's food had obviously already arrived).

The good pudding was marred by the rest of the experience, and the final nail in the coffin was the waitress complaining that we put her tip on the card payment as that meant she only got a certain percentage of the tip.and the rest went to the kitchen staff. Had her demeanour and attentiveness been more worthy we may have also left a cash tip, however having to consistently try and draw the waitress' attention to ask for anything left us frustrated and feeling unvalued as patrons.

I don't know if the management has changed, but I would make the following comments:
When we have had friends over from America and we have brought them to The Fleece we have not been disappointed with the standard of the food.
However on a recent visit, we both ordered Caesars Salad and not only was the chicken not chargrilled but the whole salad was swamped in sauce.
The men's washroom lacked any alternative facility to the pull-down towel which was soaking wet and needed changing.
There was no wine menu presented and we had to wait some considerable time for our drinks to arrive.
Having made some reasonable comments to the young woman representing management, we were left feeling that this really didn't matter.
As mentioned before, on several occasions last year, we had excellent service and lovely food and now we have been left feeling it won't be worth our coming again.

Stayed at the Fleece Inn over easter Bank holiday weekend. I would give this hotel a 10 star rating but there are only 5 stars.

From start to finish this stay has been amazing. On booking the staff were amazing, helping us choose the right hotel room and reserving a room even though we were shopping around still. On arrival they took our bags to the room whilst we were out and even showed us to our room on arrival. Its the small things that make an amazing stay.

The hotel room was smart and cosy. Felt more like a bedroom than a hotel. Bed was very comfy and plenty of storage for clothes etc. Bathroom was ok, but to be honest your going to be spending much time in there whilst exploring around the cotswolds.

Staff very friendly and helpful and food was exceptionally good. Dog friendly and girlfriend friendly.

Would Definately recommend a stay here.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Fleece Inn in Cirencester and we shall most definitely be returning. The hotel is a Grade 1 listed building and has kept a lot of its charms and features, The bedroom room was spacious and comfy with deco to fit the house. The waiting and bar staff were outstanding and were excellent in their profession. A big thank you to Chrissie, Katie and Vicky for their warm welcome and always on hand for advice. The lounge is cosy with a lit log fire that adds to the ambience. The food was delicious from the menu as was the breakfast choice. We book 2 night stays away regularly and have stayed in many lovely hotels but our stay at The Fleece has left a lasting impression and is on the top of our list of hotels to return to, we are looking ahead to organise our next visit, as we really didn't want to leave.

Called in without reservation for lunch on a cold cold day. We were made welcome by the very friendly and helpful staff. Being a Ceoliac I was somewhat disturbed to see no mention on the main menu of gluten free options but extremely pleased to be told there was a gluten free menu available. Plenty of choice and I settled for roast chicken fricassee. While the chicken was full of flavour and well cooked I found the accompaniments a little bland. Nevertheless overall I felt satisfied with the fare. My partner, a vegetarian, telsme that while the menu initially for her was not inspiring the food she had was delicious, details not to hand I'm afraid. We had soft drinks only and did not partake of desserts, though the choice for me seemed excellent. Overall I would be happy to use The Fleece again if in the area.

Have just returned from Sunday lunch at The Fleece. First time of visit. The staff were friendly and until the last course on the ball. I opted for roast beef etc and have to say that the beef was absolutely delicious it came with a giant Yorkshire with roast potatoes and separate bowl of broccoli sugar snaps and carrots all nicely cooked and nicely presented. Instead of starters we had the equivalent of English tapas which were fine and generous. The desserts where very average with fairly small selection and besides being pricey I would hazard a guess that many of the sweets were far from home-made. Generally a nice meal in nice surroundings but at £17.50 for a two course Sunday lunch quite expensive. This is a popular place and I would advise booking.

The location is fantastic, b right in the centre of Cirencester, on the Market Place. I only had drinks there but the service was quick, efficient and courteous. Staff were friendly. I was surprised to be approached to ask if I would like to order, as I was expecting it to be a normal bar where you go to the bar to order.

Some of the food looked really good, but I was disappointed in my latte. It was foamy on top, but it didn't seem to me that they had actually steamed the milk. It was more like instant with a strange watery, white foam on top. My wife's orange juice was good.

So good service, looked to be good food, some drinks were nice but they can't make coffee.

A lovely place for a weekend break in Cirencester. The Fleece is right in the centre of the town and very near to Cirencester Abbey. The standard room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable and we looked out over the courtyard. A refreshment tray included teas, coffees, hot chocolate, home made shortbread and even a teapot with a tea cosy. The evening meal at the restaurant was very tasty and there was a good wine list. John, the night porter, was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The breakfast (included in the room rate) was very good and was served in a bright room beside the courtyard. Overall a very pleasant and relaxing stay.

Ordered the duck pancake rolls... there was a long blonde hair in the duck meat, and sauce was questionable... there was an extended wait for the sirloin steak and cheeseburger to arrive.... the cheeseburger was very dry with no sauces... the steak was so rubbery I could not swallow it. The peppercorn sauce was like water with no taste.. they offered 25% discount.. I argued that this was unacceptable and the steak and duck was removed from the bill finally... now I'm off to McDonalds because it's too late to get in anywhere...

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at the fleece and found it to be a lovely place. It's position right on one of the main streets is convenient for everything. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated with comfortable beds. A good breakfast offering and really friendly, helpful staff. The bar is also lovely to sit and relax with a drink in. I would definitely recommend and will stay there again should we be on the area.

Very disappointed. Service was very poor. Was sat at the bar waiting for our friends to arrive and was completely ignored by the manager and had to search out someone to show us to our table. Had to ask for cutlery, butter and had to remind them about my toast. Eggs were overcooked, tea was luke warm and was not offered Sugar to go with my porridge, had to go to the breakfast bar and get some honey. Over priced for the amount of food.

Went to book a table - stood waiting, waitress made eye contact, then disappeared, we waited, no one appeared so we rang the bell. The said waitress re-appeared looking very put out & seemed annoyed that we were taking up her time! Meal was good, nice decor, staff who served us seemed a little disorganised but very cheery & friendly...perhaps they could have a word with their colleague!

Really nice pub. Unfortunately, our function was scheduled at lunchtime on a Sunday. The staff and kitchen were a little overwhelmed with the level of trade and, while the food was great, there were a number of errors made in our orders, which arrived erratically. I am sure that, in a quieter period, the experience would have been much better. Also nice to see such a dog friendly pub.

This is a nice pub that is dog friendly. They have a small nice outside area. The beers are decent and the food was good. However, the service was quite slow. Also the day we went it was very sunny, and we sat at a table that was by their balcony doors it got very hot. When we asked if we could open the doors they told us no without any reason and they did not offer to move us either.

Lovely pub but absolutely terrible service with no apologies and little interest. Asked 3 times for one persons drink, food order arrived 90mins after ordering & was incorrect. Cottage pie was a bowl of mince with melted cheese on the top. Lunch for 4 people with a cold platter starter and main course only, took almost 3 hours! Eat somewhere else.

Excellent pub resteraunt in the heart of Cirencester. Great food and attentive service from friendly staff. Good selection of childrens food. Nice decor and lots of spaces to sit. Looks small from the street but opens up into a mix of small rooms, courtyard and pub space. Very dog friendly also.

Really comfortable and enjoyable stay. Great quality of room but it has to be said that odd 'management' issues, like organisation / preperation of breakfast(and evening meals), are seriously bizarre and really take a shine off an otherwise great concept and pleasant staff approach.

Very nice cosy pub, very good food and friendly service. Food costs around £12-15 for a main so fairly reasonable. The fish platter is excellent. Dogs are allowed if on a lead. There is no designated smoking area so you have to go out on the street to smoke. Nice atmosphere

Personally I thought The Fleece was a lovely pub, in the center of Cirencester. The staff was lovely and served us straight away. We found a couple of tables to sit on before moving to one of the booths. I thought it was really nice in there and I'd happily return.

Amazingly friendly staff. And very helpful. Brother in law was getting married and wife to be stayed there so called in to say high. Very clean very friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend that people pop in. Even the fellow patrons were chatty to me and my baby.

I went with my husband and we were lucky enough to get a seat outside. We only had a light lunch and a beer but we were able to sit and watch the world go by. We both had sandwiches which were very fresh. I had smoked chicken and pesto mayo..... It was lovely ;-)

Food was lovely but the waiting times were poor. We spent 2 hours at the table for 3 courses which is just too long. Empty plates were on the table for half an hour which is just not acceptable. We left no tip due to the timing but at least the food was good.

Really really lovely food. Great menu and staff and lots of space. I highly recommend this place. Was great for my family and my little neice loved her platter of food which included vegetables, ham, cheese etc so healthy rather than the fried stuff you get.

Not very clean food OK the only thing we really don't like is that there are dogs aloud in all aspects of the place I feel that if you allow dogs in thay should be confind to one room as we don't like dogs around us when we are eating

Lovely building recently refurbished, not that there was anything particularly wrong with it previously. Nice sandwiches and bar foods, great selection of beers on tap. Personally like to sit up at the bar if it's not too busy.

Nice food. Not spectacular. Shame they don't promote local produce more. Why Lincolnshire sausages on menu and not Gloucestershire? Guess that is what comes of being a chain. Would go again though. Service was a little slow.

We visited from Wales, not knowing cirencester at all we decided to eat here, well I'm glad we did, excellent food, quick service and polite staff, couldn't have asked for more, THANK YOU, will be back for sure.

Stopped in for drink and snacks. They had live music on which was OK, can't hold it against the venue but the band could have done with some practice! Drinks were cold and fresh and the snacks we got were delicious.
