Booked for deluxe afternoon tea, which included a glass of prosecco.............shortly after we were seated the prosecco arrived, good start we thought..............however I had to ask for the cup to change as it was full of tea stains........... we had to wait another 20 mins before the afternoon tea arrived......some very lacklustre sandwiches.............a fruit scone halved, a cheese scone halved, jam and cream for the fruit scone, but nothing for the cheese one.
Some 'bits' of weird cake?!?! I was brought a lemon sorbet (when the sandwiches etc came out) so it had melted before I got to eat it, plus this stewed fruit with granola on top. The small teapot eventually arrived, but we were never offered a top up, the service was very slow............the food was POOR, and we were left feeling completely underwhelmed...........wishing we had gone over the road to The Running Fox, where we've been many times before............WE WON'T BE GOING BACK.!!!

8 friends had an evening at the Arms last night Dec 18th and we were well looked after by the staff despite the service being a little slow. Food, all courses, were very good but we had the usual problem with vegetarian dishes, one member of the party being vegetarian. On the menu there was one main course option which turned out to be not available on a Friday night at 19.30! They offered mushroom risotto as an alternative but my friend does not like mushroom, the only vegetable she doesn't like so it had to be the salad from the starter course menu. This is really disappointing. I have a family member staying with us soon and he is a vegetarian and we will have to look for another alternative venue which is a shame as we like to support our local pub.

Me and my wife stayed the night. We usually stay in expensive chain hotels as that is what I thought luxury and service was. But it turns out I have been wrong for years. The service from start to finish was excellent and friendly. The room was lovely, big, clean and cosy. The free selection of loose local teas was a nice touch.
We had a 3 course lunch in the busy bar/restaurant and the food was really good and fairly priced and served in time.
The breakfast here was great too with more nice touches like including the name of the waitress on the menu.
Overall it was a great weekend and the Northumberland Arms made it. We will be back again.

We stayed in a room for a few nights. A decent pub with great food but a few minor issues, hence the 3 stars. There was no WiFi in the bedroom (not even a little bit). The staff were unable to do anything about this apparently. Also the room shook significantly when a door was shut downstairs. This stopped in the evening luckily but don't expect it to be peaceful during the afternoon. The food was incredible though! I would give the pub 5 stars based on food, drink and staff friendliness.

My family and I visited for Sunday lunch. We were seated in the back in the private area, which was a very nice surprise. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, they were all very polite, friendly and welcoming. The food was very nice, the lamb and Yorkshire puddings were superb and the turnip fantastic. We can't wait to head back to try the regular menu. Thank you

My idea of a cosy country hotel /pub. Gorgeous food served by very friendly and pleasant staff. Six cask ale pumps, all as far as I know from local breweries and all in excellent condition. We spent two nights here and really enjoyed them. Couldn't fault the 'Northumberland plate' breakfast, would recommend to anyone. Would love to return soon.

I adore this gorgeous pub. The location is fantastic and we often make a day out of our trip for lunch with a walk along the river to work up an appetite, lunch and then a browse in the Gallery 45. The staff at the Northumberland Arms are 'super' friendly, the food is 'super' delicious AND dog friendly - can't go wrong here!

Good and filling bar food and range of 5 ales from a variety of different breweries e.g. anarchy and Allendale. Great old building including some old curiosity items inside and a newish oaken frame we creation room. Also serves a restaurant menu. Gf options available.

Went for lunch there. It's a lovely pub in lovely surroundings. I would recommend the scotch egg for starters, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the pie was just filling in a bowl with pastry on top!

I liked this place mainly due to the atmosphere and very warm, welcoming and friendly staff. Food was excellent, portions a little on the small side but otherwise I'm going back*

All our meals were delicious, fish and chips could feed 2 people. Burger was big and juicy, kids pizza was small but tasty. Friendly staff and in a wonderfull location. Prices ok.

Beautiful Inn, rooms are amazing, only a couple of miles from main routes, excellent food and very helpful staff. Highly recommended, we had a great experience staying there.

The food was excellent as was the service: very quick and polite. All the dishes we ordered were rather plentiful. The selection of local craft beers was also quite pleasing.

Spent a couple of hours here having a few drinks at the bar. Bar staff were friendly and service was great, and the bar had a great atmosphere as well.

Lovely meal, really could not fault any of it. As close to perfect as you can get without paying silly money. Will definitely be back (with the dog)

Service is always a little slow but I haven't worked out if it's deliberate to give you a chance to settle or if it's just like that

No bread at all available at breakfast - there is a well known & very popular bakery less than 100 yards away which was open.

A nicely done out bar with a warm welcome from staff. I'm not a fan of Sunday lunches but this was delicious.

The whole bar was set up for eating, it would of benefited leaving the bar area as a bar and a no children area.
