We were looking forward to eating here as part of a Easter treat and had tried to pre-book for 7pm but were told can we make it a little later, so settled with the restaurant for 7.30pm. We arrived on time and said we had a table booked and were told 'ooooh you're very late' we've called you and left a message. After explaining how we had booked and the time, the lady explained again in a surly way that we don't have the table now, we explained again the times we had been booked for and again were met with a response in the middle of the restaurant amongst other paying customers that we were wrong and that I would never book at that time in service and that when you get home there will be a message from me. We asked again about a table and were told there wouldn't be one, so we left and at best I would describe the woman that spoke to us as rude and unwelcoming and arrogantly right. After eating elsewhere (a thank you to the Pearsons Arms) and returning home there were no messages on the answer phone or mobile either. Very disappointed in the manner we were treated and how clearly WE had been told we were wrong and how adamant the woman who spoke to us had been about the phone message that never came. We will not be returning and suggest that staff take a step back when dealing with customers and think through all the possibilities where things may have gone wrong, instead of dismissing the guests who are wanting to dine.

Pretentious. Seems like they don't really know what they want to be. The food is an attempt at fine dining, but doesn't really live up to it, though the prices are up there.
Instead of the tried and tested use of menus, this place has gone with a blackboard as an attempt at being rustic and casual. Bit of a contradiction.
We were sat in a corridor from the kitchen and the blackboard was behind 2 of us, so to see it we had to turn our heads. We couldn't turn our chairs, because we'd then be blocking the corridor. Not very comfortable and pretty pointless. Portions were small. The wine was bad and overpriced.
I asked for some bread as some mains didn't have any cars, but I was charged extra for it.
I've eaten much much better fine food at these prices and better bistro food for less.

We went here on a very sunny bank holiday weekend so the whole of whitstable was packed. However when we arrived at samphire, it was for an early dinner and the restaurant was mostly empty yet the staff already seemed stressed. They were not welcoming and service was slow, both for us and others who we saw complain. The menu sounded delicious but did not live up to expectation. The gnocchi starter was basically 4 small semi circles of mashed potato - not gnocchi at all! The ham hock terrine was also tasteless. Others were happy with beef and mussels but all in all, over priced. Cosy atmosphere but a solitary toilet for all diners is totally insufficient. We won’t be returning.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal we had here. We both had the asparagus starter which was wonderful, my wife had duck breast with provencal potatoes & I had the fish of the day (mullet) with mash & greens both were beautifully presented & tasted sublime. My wife had creme brule which should have come with banana bread which didn't appeal to my wife so they changed it without issue for one that did (stem ginger ice cream) I had cheesecake with rhubarb & basil again both were gorgeous. We both would heartily recommend this restaurant both for its food & the serving of it & we both will be paying another visit next time we are in Whitstable

I am local and have been meaning to try this restaurant, I walked in to book in advance. My dinner date is a tall, large man so I asked if I could pick our table. Unbeknown to me I was talking to the owner .... he was rude and blatantly obnoxious about my friend, insulting a person he'd never even met. I did book the table but upon reflection I realised I could not take my lovely friend to this place for risk of him being insulted. I don't know if the owner thought he was amusing ... he wasn't he just came over as rude.

We visited Whitstable for a few days between Christmas and New Year and decided to book this restaurant at the last minute ! So glad we did! The service, the quality and the taste of the food was all outstanding and we had a great evening. This was only enhanced when we found out we had over an hour to wait for a taxi back to our Hotel and a delightful offer of a ride was offered by one of the waitresses ! Thank you so much - your kindness was much appreciated. We hope to return very soon!

This is what's left of Eggs Forrester, it was just right! My poached egg was runny as requested and my wife's eggs hard as she had requested, and not smothered in hollandaise sauce! with a lovely coffee. We are vegetarian and there was a good choice. Not the cheapest but well worth it. Music not overpowering, a pleasant atmosphere and friendly helpful waitress. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Love it here! Brilliant food, team, atmosphere. Had the most memorable Sunday lunch in a long time. They even saved two portions for us because they were running low and knew we asked about Sunday lunch upon booking.
Visited again on Christmas Eve and had another lovely meal, really interesting dishes that are well-cooked. Desserts equally as good, based on the mains it was impossible not to try them.

We dined in Samphire on Wednesday 26 July. Absolutely beautiful menu, restaurant and service. What a superb team. I felt welcome from the second I entered the restaurant. The food was delicious, probably one of the tastiest, most beautifully served meal I have ever tasted. The team have an incredible eye for detail with our table suitably decorated for our birthday celebration. A huge thank you.

The tiny 5m wide restaurant on the High Street in Whitstable is cute and staff are very nice. Unfortunately, they simply try too hard with the menu. For brunch, I just didn't want fussy meals. I would have loved a good 'ol fashioned bacon, eggs and toast. But that was, I suppose, too common for them. A shame. They should have something on the menu for non-foodies.

This place is great. A warm welcome on a cold night. Restaurant was about half full on a Thursday night and atmosphere was good. Good choice of music. Service was good. Food choice is all up in a board and you have about 8 choices of starter and the same for mains. The food was excellent. This is not the cheapest restaurant in the world but worth every penny.

Lovely food. We have the fish of the day and steak which were exceptional. Service was also very good. But if you are a big eater the portions will be to small for you. A big disappointment was the cheese board, though very tasty, at £10.95 for a few crackers and 4 Matchbox size bits of cheese this was far to expensive.

Had brunch here with friends and really appreciated the attentive and knowledgeable staff and the fantastic food we were served. Three full English, and an eggs Benedict, all extremely well cooked and very reasonably priced. Will definitely come back. Bacon and sausages were so good we asked where they got them!

Really enjoyed our meal at Samphire - not a lot of food options left by the time we got there (later in the afternoon), but the food was amazing. I had mussels - fresh, tasty and generous portions - and my friends had fish pie, which they really enjoyed as well.

Small but interesting and varied menu. Delicious food, carefully prepared with fantastic flavours. Friendly and attentive service. Great atmosphere - chatty but not too loud to have a conversation. An excellent restaurant. Don't tell too many people!

Delicious wonderfully cooked food, rather cosy interiors and very attentive service. If anything, they seem to be a bit understaffed on the front end. Defo in my personal top three fav places to eat in Whitstable. The window tables are the best :-)

We had a really great meal at Samphire. Fresh, original menus for any food lover and great tasting food. Kohlrabi gratin with the lamb was a winner. Staff were really friendly, attentive and happy to accommodate our young son with their kids menu.

Eclectic and inventive menu that requires translation due to an element of preciousness. Very helpful and friendly staff who accept that closing time means what it says, not closing time minus 3/4 of an hour earlier to allow for preparation.

Mother’s Day lunch, but on the Monday after Reasonably priced. Fantastic food. Very accommodating staff. Unfortunately, it got so busy, the puddings came up late and had cooled down. But will definitely come back to try an evening meal.

2nd visit to the samphire. Staff are lovely and friendly. Simply had the most wonderful and interesting full English breakfast. Will be cooking garlic mushrooms on my home cooked breakfasts from now on.

Amazing little restaurant. We spent New Year's Eve there with a group of friends and they made it a special one to remember. The food never fails to disappoint be it breakfast lunch or dinner!

Really like the atmosphere, great food and I generally find the staff professional and attentive. They have been great about calling me back when they were able to bring my table time forward.

Generally very good food with wacky service. Been here many times and I still can't work out why they can't print a menu instead of asking everybody to turn around to read a board.

Absolutely fanstastic. After a number of mediocre restraunt experiences, Samphire gave me renewed faith in British restraunts - High quality local produce, cooked simply and well.
