Came with national holidays well what can I say. !The hotel was badly run and organised I have worked has a chef and waitress and chambermaid of many hotels. Evening meal we was handed a paying menu when we had allready payed for are meal. The meal consisted of very dry bread with are starter . The main course was tasteless slop chicken was dry has a bone . chopped boiled tasteless potatoes and soggy veg . following stale apple pie . there was no ask of if we wanted water we had nearly finished eating by time we got any . and best bit was we had to finish are meal to walk out to get tea and coffee in reception hardly nice relaxing meal is it.ok rooms were ok . sleeping forget it music booming out all night . breakfast non busy restaurant but intructed by a manager we were not allowed to sit were we wonted talk about being degraded for been on a coach party. And scrambled eggs I'd avoid taste weird . and one young waiter who just stands looking bored scratching is head. Staff look bored and fed up very unwelcome place to be.

I have previously stayed at some very average Britannia Hotels and had seen a number of poor reviews for The Royal Hotel showing a dated and poorly maintained hotel with dirty rooms so I was a bit wary of what I would find.

I was pleasantly surprised though as my room on the first floor was modern and bright, it seemed recently painted, there was no damage to any furniture and the bathroom was immaculate.

I checked in quite late at night and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The breakfast room, bar and lobby again seemed recently decorated and were bright and airy. The breakfast was quite standard and with an ok choice (anyone looking for a healthy breakfast with salad, vegetables and lean protein will have to get creative). The fresh pastries and bread were delicious though and the full English served buffet style was warm and very nice.

I would definitely stay here again with such competitive room rates.

I've not stayed here, but sometimes I hang out and have a drink or eat a light meal in the public bar. It is very convenient for travellers, having one entrance on Hull station concourse. I have also enjoyed a friend's wedding reception here, which was hosted fairly well by the Royal.

It depends on the event(s) going on at the hotel as to whether it will be quiet or noisy at the bar. Drunken event guests can be a hazardous obstacle in the loos.

The public area is pleasant and clean, the service is polite and competent. There is always a decent beer on tap, and the bar is well stocked. They also serve tea and coffee here.

Food I have had at the bar has been based almost entirely on salads (my choice - lots more is available) and has been very variable, from simple but perfect to messy and aging. I haven't tried their restaurant yet.

Old and out dated.

The room was very small, with just enough room to walk round the bed! Very uncomfortable and stuffy as the air con unit didn't work. I asked for it to be fixed, but it wasn't. I received a reply from the hotel management 'Our air conditioning is no longer in operation throughout the hotel which explains why it was not 'fixed' after you reported it'. On our first night we discovered that there was no cold water in the wash basin in the bathroom. Rinsing your teeth in very hot water is not ideal. This fault was fixed the following day.

On check out I explained that the room was very stuffy and uncomfortable, and all I received was a very insincere apology.

The Royal Hotel is situated at the front of the Hull Paragon Interchange, making the hotel's use very tempting when pulling into the station after being on the train all day.

Although we only used their bar facilities, we found that the interior is really pleasant and comfortably lit, not to bright, not to dull. The seating areas are really comfy too.

The bar is open 24 hours, which is really nice. We stopped by for a hot chocolate before heading home one evening, but the order seemed to be too much for the staff, as we were waiting more than 7-8 minutes, although the person who served us apologised for the delay. The staff are very friendly though, and make you feel welcome.

The best part about this hotel, formerly the Mercure, is its location directly adjacent to the train station. This hotel serves excellent drink and food, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Some negatives: the bath water was tepid, while the bathroom faucet was scalding; there is no air conditioning....it is 'broken' and has been since my last visit here in August. The staff do provide fans for relief. If you are American, you will be hard pressed to find ice or washcloths! Bring the latter if you use them to wash up with! Whilst the room was clean, the walls needed tending; there were obvious repairs done inside the walls that had been opened yet not cosmetically completed.

I would just like to say that last night 6th June we were invited back to the Hotel following a not so good evening in March for my friends hen night, which a few of us expressed our concerns with.

I am happy to report that everything from the room size, to the food and attentive staff was 100% improved.

The artist was excellent and all in all we had a fantastic night, thanks for looking after us so well and I will happily recommend these evenings as a great together.

I feel sure we will all be back, as we are planning on making this a regular catch up.

Thanks again :)

Looks great from the outside and the reception area is quite grand, but the rest is very dated and rundown. The air con in most of the rooms is broken, so you have to have the window open, then the train noise keeps you awake. The rooms are very dated and quite small. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been redone is 20 years!

The breakfast was Ok, but quite tasteless. I guess it's cheap so you get what you pay for, but if you can, spend a bit more and stay somewhere better.

Loved my stay here, interesting building, fab location. The reception/bar area was enchanting, large areas full of smiling staff obviously tired from the season but working their socks off non the less. The room was standard with the bathroom slighty above standard but spotlessly clean. Only down side was due to the huge window it was really cold in the room. I'm not too effected by the cold and to be fair I didn't complain so didn't give them chance to amend this problem.

Let's start with the positives. Great central location. It's very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good value for money but sadly the hotel deco is very tired. The mattress was hard, the overflow leaked and the window was kept open with a stick. I'd definitely stay again once the hotel has had a refurb and the mattresses are changed.

This is our 4th visit. Our previous visits were verry good but this time even better. The food is faultless and the rooms are clean. The hotel is much busier than our previous stays so it seems like people are realising what a good deal it is. £99 each for 2 nights all inclusive (bar included 7_11) through great little breaks. lots to do on your doorstep.

Paid £39.50 for a very mediocre meal. I couldn't eat the veg as they were literally just mush. The pudding was a complete disappointment. Awful meal and so late start of the motown that I could only enjoy 30 minutes before the last train.
Really disappointed with the night. The food was awful and the entertainment to late getting started.

have stayed many times at the royal in hull, But this is the last time, on arrival we were told we had been allocated a room in the annex otherwise we could upgrade to an executive room at £20 extra. We accepted the up grade to find a dull uninviting room, black mould on the shower screen we complained but management were unconcered

Fine hotel with a very useful location in the station itself and across the road from st Stephens shopping centre. No gym but they have an arrangement with the gym in the shopping centre which is cool. Executive room was spacious and had a nespresso. Bit dated interior. Breakfast was fine. Staff were nice.

Very friendly and respectful staff both in the bar and at breakfast. The room was comfortable and clean. Nice big bed in the double. For the price and location its great and free parking in this location is great too. The hotel is attached to the railway station but that is no issues at all.

No cold water in the sink, and no warm water in the shower. The toilet had to be 'pumped' several times just to flush.
the rooms are old and needs to be upgraded.
If you want internet in your room, thats extra, in 2018..
The breakfast is avarage.

Staff are friendly and welcoming, evening meal was delicious and breakfast was good. Room was festooned with cobwebs, shower head was in a very poor state of repair and everytime anyone came through the fire door outside my room I would hear a loud creaking noise

Room's where not clean, elevator didn't work. Fire alarm went off twice around 4 in the morning for no reason. WiFi in the room only 20 minutes free. This is not something for this day and age. Second star because staff is friendly and breakfast is good.

Not the greatest night's stay. It's an old hotel but the Google reviews are accurate. Great staff which suffer by the hotel bring so old. Being next to the railway station doesn't help as it's noisy.

Good hotel, kind and professional staff, however room felt empty almost and dated. My room had a window to the train station and the trains coming in and out, the people shouting and the tannoy was a large disturbance.

Stayed for one night on a coach trip
Hotel was nice, staff were friendly. Food was good. Double bed was a little small, one side pushed up against the wall. But the room was clean and tidy. Overall a good stay

Ok hotel near the station. The main complain is the noise that you can hear from the rooms facing the street....or the station. That being said, they are very friendly and there is a classy feeling in the building

Great location, close to city centre as well as, which backing on to the train station, so very easy to find. Very nice interior. Great selection of drinks and food. Service was a bit slow though.

The hotel is situated next to the bus and rail stations and in the centre of the city centre. Rooms are clean and well presented, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Great value for money.

Gone downhill since change of ownership. Car parking was free now charged, and WiFi now only free in the lounge area. Little things but annoying. Staying elsewhere on our next visit to Hull.

Had a great experience here. Was in Hull for the day on business and the hotel was comfortable from room to meeting room to bar. Staff are polite and welcoming and the location is superb!

Old fashioned hotel, much in need of an update. Small tight maze-like corridors. Room is small, decor is old. Shower a bit weak but otherwise ok. Cheap soap. Good breakfast tbough
