Had to put a 1 star so could write a review but not worth that .Got to the hotel about 7.30 pm to be told the kitchen was shut for some reason that we never got told why.The room we got was a double with en-suite that looked as old as the hotel and the en-suite was something out of 70's .Got told it was a complimentary continental breakfast but said it was in the price of the stay anyway . We were expecting a English cooked breakfast as it did not say it was a continental. I think the owners have not been on the continent and had breakfast as all it consumed of was cereal, toast, yogurt, cheese and orange as a fruit.Had a bad night sleep as the bed felt like it was going to full apart and every slight movement it squeaked and creaked . When we complained the lady said we will tighten the screws up . I think it really wants throwing away and getting a new 1 it was beyond tighting screws up .Would not recommend it to family or friends and would not go back if it was the last place on earth .Me and my wife both were ill later that day after breakfast and could only put it down to the breakfast as the yogurt and cheese was the only thing we had eaten the same and it was just sat on the side, not in a chiller. The cutlery was dirty with lumps of food stuck to them ,and when we told the owners daughter she said a new girl had started that day. The cutlery had actually been on the side from the night before,

Dirty, loud, grotty and depressing. Wasn't expecting a huge amount for £65 for the night but i do expect a certain level of cleanliness, the place was filthy, our pokey little rooms carpet looked like it had been in a nightclub, beyond disgusting. There was no toilet in the room and the loo was so far away up and down tiny ceilings and wooden beams that going for a wee at 3am half asleep down cold corridors isn't much fun, especially when the toilet is communal and everyone seems to lose the ability to use a toilet when they're not at home, it was absolutely disgusting, pee everywhere. We were given 1 hard towel between 2 of us thats about all we got. Theres no tea or coffee facilities, all the furnishings are ancient and dirty. Just nothing good to say about it except the sheets were clean and the bed comfy, not that we slept since everytime someone flushed the toilet below us it sounded like it was in our room. Over priced, poorly run and dirty.

Heating didn't work over night at all ! ! !
Breakfast very very poor.

We really liked the pub and the room we slept in and was willing to give a 5 star review but the Heating Did Not Work although we set it up on max. We were very cold over night.

We asked for an alternative in the night but nothing sorted.

Breakfast was very very poor and everyone seemed a bit confused...

When we mentioned the problem to the owner Claudio, he didn't care, of course he wasn't willing to give any refund and he said it isnt't his fault that radiator didn't work.

Room was dirty and finish was poor, shower was in a cupboard in the hallway (no shower rail, soap dispenser was empty, lock was a hook that may allow for a mid shower peeping tom, floor still wet from previous use), walls are thin so can hear a pin drop in your neighbour's room, breakfast is mega basic, breakfast bowls were dirty (went through 3 before I found something acceptable), common parts dark throughout, a single window in the restaurant area. All this for £65 a night! Service was good though!

we stayed for one night, not enough staff, staff untrained, room dusty not been cleaned, shower mounted to low on the wall, couldnt place it above my head.bathroom light flickered like a strobe,if I had epilepsy it would of been a problem,no mention of when breakfast to be taken and were, breakfast was poor, the coffee was tepid,no tea, fruit juice not replenished, poor selection of cereals and toast arrived as we were about to leave

I have seen some shockingly bad reviews of this place. All I can say is that most of the reviewers can't spell or construct a sentence. Claudio is a legend and the welcome, food and beer were top notch. Yes it is, several hundred years old, and if you don't appreciate British history just drive past. Premier inn is just down the road.

Lunch at The Chequers Inn Hotel.... Lovely warm welcoming bar, food average. Drinks ridiculously priced. All beers, ciders and lagers £5 a pint. If you have half they charge £3..... We didn't realize until we paid our tab and queried the bill. So my 3 halves cost us £9 luckily the rest of the group had pints. We will not be returning....

The breakfast was zero for the price of the room and it was SUPER COLD.
Hospitality was also least confident in her case when something went drinking.
Order and cleanliness could be better!
Too expensive!
Nothing to see around themselves.
The pictures are not what it really is!
Beautiful it is.

Stayed there one night in June 2015. We were expecting the décor to be a bit 'period' (1970s) as shown on the website, so that was fine. However, the 1970s also appears to be the period when the room was last cleaned. Carpet felt as if someone had emptied a bag of grit all over it! Staff were pleasant.

Eat there yesterday with friends the burger was burnt the fish and chips was ok but not the best the drinks order took 2 go's to get right can't say anything for the hotel as we didn't stay we was there just for food. The pub it's self looks amazing so maybe we was just unlucky on this day

Shocking. Brocken doors, cold toast, unfriendly staff, ect. I do NOT recomend staying here. Staff dont even have a uniform, just wearing tracksuits. Cleaner not even in shoes! Tables in restaurant and breakfast bar were unclean, and the food selection was awful. This ‘ hotel ‘ is not a hotel, its a rat hole.

I stayed in the lower rooms downstairs and there is lots of re-working there at the moment but the rooms and the whole vibe of the place is very comfy and cozy, the breakfast is nice and simple but alas they do not serve a cooked breakfast even on sundays.

It was convenient for what I wanted and they were kind enough to extend the leaving time for us as I wanted the option of a lazy lie in. However, the bed was ridiculously soft and bouncy and I had to clean poo marks off the toilet so that wasn't great

Brilliant hotel with great rooms and showers. The staff are friendly and reliable. The bar is well priced and the coke cola is a cheap price. Highly recommended for all

Atmosphere is friendly and sometimes lively. Drinks are slightly overpriced but the service is fairly prompt. Food is OK but staff are friendly and welcoming.

Went in for a Bank Holiday lunch. Reasonably priced tasty food and a traditional feel. Very friendly and fair service. Dog friendly room.

Choice of real ales was very small - 2. Neither was any good. Glass was dirty. Expensive. Toilets a sad sight. Avoid all costs.

It's a nice little hotel with an old English exterior. Good for regular stay, not too fancy but yet pretty cozy.

Great place. The host is very friendly. The rooms are reasonably priced and breakfast is included in the price.

Just now i had pizza here with my partner. Both of us are so pleased. Nicely decorated and warm welcoming.

Nice looking, however needs work doing. Low ceilings and narrow doors makes disabled access difficult.
